Reality is not the problem.

Avoiding it is.

The truth may sting for a moment, but denial charges interest for years.

If everyone dealt correctly with their own reality, there would be far less denial, excusing, and avoidance.

Instead, there would be a steady evolution and improvement of personal character.

We control far more of our growth than we care to admit.

Imagine a world where truth was welcomed instead of avoided.

None of us would remain the same.

We would become better.

REALIST DEFINED

A realist is a person who accepts a situation and is prepared to deal with it.

That sounds simple enough.

Yet many spend enormous amounts of energy trying to avoid what already exists.

HERE’S THE CATCH

You have to want this.

A simple yes choice activates the process.

Awareness begins working immediately.

But there is one condition.

You must be willing to work on what surfaces.

That means visiting your belief systems.

Some beliefs must be strengthened.

Some must be modified.

Some must be dismissed altogether.

WE ARE DRIVEN BY BELIEFS

Beliefs power the human being in all that they do—or do not do.

“It is done unto you as you believe.”

If one accepts this possibility, blame begins losing its grip.

Excuses become harder to maintain.

Outcomes become opportunities for examination instead of accusation.

PUT LEGS ON WORDS

Responsibility.

Accountability.

Ownership.

Many speak these words.

Far fewer activate them.

The true test is simple.

Ask yourself:

Am I where I want to be?

The answer reveals much.

THE SELF

People often find it easier to criticize than assess.

We excel at observing others.

We struggle observing ourselves.

Obsessive thinking complicates the matter.

As I often say:

You can sink in your think.

FIRST STOP… MYSELF

Self-assessment works.

Feedback works.

Honest input works.

But there is something many are not prepared for.

ALL THE CORRECTIONS THAT ARE NEEDED

The first things that surface when we want change are usually the very things preventing it.

Negative patterns.

Bad habits.

Distorted beliefs.

Old wounds.

They arrive first because they must be addressed first.

YOUR CHILDHOOD

Many dysfunctional beliefs were formed long ago.

Some were inherited.

Some were learned.

Some were accepted without question.

Yet they continue influencing present outcomes.

The good news?

What was learned can be unlearned.

What was accepted can be reexamined.

THE WORK INVOLVED

Those who genuinely desire improvement eventually welcome old hurts to surface.

Not because they enjoy pain.

Because freedom often follows examination.

What is acknowledged can be healed.

What is healed can be released.

THE FLOW

There is also a natural timing involved.

I call it “the flow.”

When you stop fighting everything and begin cooperating with truth, life starts presenting what needs attention in proper order.

Nature does this effortlessly.

Its seasons arrive on schedule.

Perhaps there is wisdom in that.

WE HAVE A GOOD FATHER

The Creator desires good things for His children.

Much of what we seek already exists.

It waits to be discovered.

It waits to be activated.

It waits to be received.

START-UP IS SIMPLE

Accept where you are.

Accept your current reality.

Take responsibility for your situation.

When you do, the correct tools begin appearing.

Solutions emerge.

Growth begins.

Progress follows.

BEWARE & NOTE

The ego will interfere.

Pride will object.

Willfulness will resist.

Demanding attitudes often sabotage what humility could easily receive.

SHORT-TERM PAIN… LONG-TERM PLEASURE

The process of becoming a better person requires three things:

You must want to.

You must choose to.

You must finish what you start.

Reality is the starting point.

Your reality.

Not someone else’s.

It’s humbling.

But the long-term return is extraordinary.

Invest wisely.

Start with yourself.
