You weren’t born doubting yourself.
Somewhere along the road, doubt climbed aboard.
Maybe it’s time to tell it…
THIS IS MY JOURNEY. I’LL TAKE IT FROM HERE.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF — YOU WERE EQUIPPED FOR THE JOURNEY
Doubt and hesitation don’t appear to be standard equipment when human beings come off the assembly line.
Watch a little child.
They reach.
They explore.
They try.
They fall.
They get back up.
Then somewhere along the life-way, something happens.
We hear NO.
We fail.
Someone criticizes us.
We compare ourselves with somebody else.
We get embarrassed, rejected or disappointed.
Little by little, we pick up baggage we weren’t carrying when we started.
Doubt.
Hesitation.
Fear.
MMMMM?
Maybe instead of learning to live with these things, we should recognize them when they show up and replace some of that empty space with something much more useful:
WORTH AND CONFIDENCE.
YOU ARE THE BEST PICK FOR THE JOB
What job?
BEING YOU.
Nobody else has your exact combination of experiences, abilities, mistakes, lessons, personality, talents and opportunities.
Take stock of yourself.
Where do you excel?
Where do you struggle?
What do you know?
What don’t you know?
Be honest about all of it.
Not knowing something isn’t failure.
NOT KNOWING IS THE BEGINNING OF KNOWING.
That little adjustment alone can change the way you approach life.
Instead of:
“I can’t do this.”
Try:
“I don’t know how to do this YET.”
Now we’ve got somewhere to go.
THE HEART DOESN’T LIE
There are times when something inside you knows.
You know you should make the call.
You know you should apologize.
You know you should begin.
You know something isn’t right.
You know something IS right.
And then the committee upstairs starts meeting.
What if?
Maybe later.
I’m not ready.
What will people think?
Suppose I fail?
Suppose you don’t?
There comes a point when excessive analysis becomes another name for standing still.
Your heart may have already pointed.
Your feet still have to move.
BELIEVING IN YOURSELF ISN’T VANITY
There is a difference between believing you are better than everybody else and believing you have something worthwhile to contribute.
One is vanity.
The other is stewardship.
If you have been given skills, talents, abilities, experiences and opportunities, why bury them beneath doubt?
USE THEM.
Not merely for yourself.
Put them to work for somebody else too.
Confidence becomes much healthier when it has a purpose beyond the self.
CARPE DIEM…LET’S GO!
Here is another day.
Another opportunity.
Another moment to put what you have been given into motion.
You don’t need to know everything before beginning.
You don’t need everybody’s approval.
And you certainly don’t have to wait until fear disappears.
Take the next reasonable step.
Then another.
Let experience teach you what thinking alone never could.
You may discover something rather interesting along the way:
The person you kept waiting to become…
was already inside you waiting to be USED.
Believe in yourself.
Then give that belief somewhere worthwhile to go.
