Doubt is not always the enemy.
Sometimes it is a signal.
But if you keep inviting it back after the decision is already made, doubt stops helping and starts stealing your momentum.
People doubt doubt.

PAUSE here.
The first rule of doubt, when it presents itself, is this:
There is no need to fear doubt itself.
It has a purpose.
If you are objective, the moment can actually work in your favor if you handle doubt correctly.
You were not created to live in doubt.
But since doubt exists…
we might as well learn how to use it.
DOUBT RAISES QUESTIONS
Why is doubt here?
That is the first question.
Doubt may simply be telling you:
Take another look.
Check the facts.
Check the motive.
Check your heart.
Check whether you are acting from fear, guilt, pressure, impatience, or confusion.
Something inside is questioning you.
WHY?
That question can be useful.
Sometimes guilt is involved.
Sometimes we know we made a wrong choice and doubt starts circling around afterward.
That makes doubt and guilt pretty close cousins.
LOL.
But there is another side.
If you are conscious, present, and clear in the moment…
and you make the decision honestly…
then at some point the decision is DONE.
You cannot keep reopening the courtroom every five minutes.
That becomes unnecessary back-pondering.
Doubt dynamics at work.
CONSIDER SECOND THOUGHTS
Second thoughts are interesting too.
They are not always bad.
Those who shop on impulse…
speak before thinking…
send the email too fast…
or regularly suffer from foot-in-mouth disease…
LOL…
might benefit greatly from a second thought.
Sometimes reconsidering saves you.
I have watched calm, tranquil people make much better decisions than people who are upset, frightened, rushed, or emotionally boiling.
That alone should tell us something.
Slow down enough to hear yourself.
But do not confuse careful thought with endless hesitation.
There is a difference.
A useful second thought asks:
“Did I miss something?”
An unhealthy second thought asks:
“What if everything goes wrong?”
Again.
And again.
And again.
WHO DOES DOUBT CALL FOR HELP?
HESITATION.
Doubt loves company.
If you let it hang around too long, it usually invites hesitation over.
Then hesitation invites fear.
Then fear invites delay.
Pretty soon the whole family is sitting in your living room.
LOL.
Meanwhile, the decision is still waiting.
Doubt can cause you to question what you already know is right in your own heart.
And I am not talking about impulse.
I am talking about that deeper inner knowing that comes when you are honest with yourself.
When your heart, conscience, experience, and common sense all line up…
you usually know more than you think you do.
Doubt wants to interrupt that.
It wants to stop the child at play.
Stop the artist from creating.
Stop the businessperson from acting.
Stop the person from speaking up.
Stop forward movement.
Then the old saying arrives:
He who hesitates is lost.
LEADERS LEARN
Leaders are not people who never question themselves.
That would be foolish.
Leaders simply learn not to live permanently inside the question.
They gather information.
Think.
Listen.
Decide.
Act.
Then they OWN the decision.
If it works…
good.
If it does not…
learn.
Adjust.
Move again.
That is leadership.
Not perfection.
Leaders do not eliminate doubt by pretending they know everything.
They outgrow excessive doubt by developing trust in themselves.
Self-assurance.
Confidence.
Experience.
And responsibility.
Eventually they stop asking:
“What if I am wrong?”
and begin asking:
“If I am wrong, what will I learn?”
That is a much better question.
TRIAL — TRY IT — AND ERROR
As you rely less on doubt and unnecessary second thoughts, something interesting happens.
You become more precise.
You think with more purpose.
You act with more purpose.
And then…
LOL…
you make mistakes.
Lots of them.
Welcome to life.
That is called learning.
That is also called RISK.
We risk because we want gain.
Growth.
Change.
Experience.
New results.
If you never risk anything, you may avoid some mistakes.
You may also avoid quite a bit of living.
The beauty of trial and error is that reality gives feedback.
This worked.
That did not.
This needs adjusting.
That needs stopping.
That needs another try.
Humility now enters the picture.
Humility says:
“I may not know everything.”
Confidence says:
“But I know enough to move.”
Those two work very well together.
FIRST THOUGHT — SECOND THOUGHT — FINAL DECISION
There is another distinction worth making.
Your first thought may contain instinct.
Your second thought may contain analysis.
Your final decision should contain ownership.
That is the sequence.
Do not worship the first thought.
Do not get trapped in the second.
Make the decision.
Then move.
Otherwise life turns into one enormous waiting room.
LOL.
RICHIE SPEAKS
Doubt gets one vote.
It does not get control of the meeting.
Second thoughts get a hearing.
They do not automatically get a veto.
And hesitation?
Hesitation better have a very good reason for stopping the bus.
If your heart, facts, common sense, and conscience are all pointing in the same direction…
GO.
THE DEAL IS TO KEEP IT REAL
There is something inside all of us that keeps gently reminding us not to doubt what we know to be right.
We do well to listen to that mechanism.
Call it conscience.
Inner knowing.
Awareness.
Experience.
Faith.
Whatever word you choose…
there is something inside that knows when we are being honest with ourselves.
Add a little faith.
Add a little courage.
Add willingness to be wrong and learn.
Now you have a genuine human being on your hands.
That is real value.
PEARLS INSIGHT
Healthy doubt can help us pause, reconsider, and make wiser decisions.
Unhealthy doubt keeps reopening decisions that have already been made with care.
The difference is whether doubt leads to clarity…
or paralysis.
PEARLS CONNECTION
This connects directly with confidence, awareness, discipline, hindsight, and personal responsibility.
You do not become confident by waiting until doubt disappears.
You become confident by making thoughtful decisions…
living through the results…
and learning that you can handle whatever comes next.
FINAL THOUGHT
Doubt has a job.
Let it do the job.
Ask the question.
Check yourself.
Look again if necessary.
Then make the decision.
Once the heart, mind, facts, and conscience have had their meeting…
tell doubt and unnecessary second thoughts:
Meeting adjourned.
GET LOST.
There is living to do.
