You probably CAN do many things.
But some things seem to come alive in your hands, your mind, or your voice…
while others feel like dragging a piano uphill.
That difference is trying to tell you something.
I can do anything.
Well…
perhaps.

LOL.
The better question is:
HOW WELL CAN I DO IT?
And another:
HOW NATURALLY DOES IT COME TO ME?
You will notice that certain things seem to fit you.
You understand them quickly.
You improve rapidly.
You enjoy the process.
You have an instinct for them.
Then there are other things.
You try.
You struggle.
You practice.
You still feel like somebody handed you the instructions in another language.
LOL.
That does not necessarily mean you cannot learn.
It may simply mean you have discovered the difference between something that belongs naturally inside your SKILLS BANK…
and something you are learning because life requires it.
START EXPERIMENTING
The key to discovering your skills bank is USE.
You cannot discover everything sitting in a chair wondering what you might be good at.
Get involved.
Try things.
Volunteer.
Work.
Build.
Speak.
Write.
Cook.
Organize.
Sell.
Teach.
Listen.
Fix.
Lead.
Create.
Exercise.
Help somebody.
Then pay attention to YOURSELF while you are doing it.
What happens to your attitude?
Does time disappear?
Do people respond well?
Do you keep getting better?
Does it energize you or drain you?
That is feedback.
And feedback is one of life’s best instructors.
REPETITION HAS TO ENTER
Be careful here.
We cannot try something once, fail, and announce:
“Not in my skills bank.”
LOL.
Everything has a learning curve.
Natural ability still requires development.
The question is not whether you were perfect immediately.
The question is:
What happens after repetition?
Do things begin clicking?
Does understanding arrive?
Do you become increasingly comfortable?
Or after reasonable effort, does the entire process still feel completely foreign?
That distinction matters.
Sometimes we are discovering a gift.
Sometimes we are simply becoming competent.
Both have value.
But they are not necessarily the same thing.
THERE IS POWER IN KNOWING
When a person begins recognizing their skills bank, something changes.
They start understanding:
Here are my strengths.
Here are my weaknesses.
Here are things that energize me.
Here are things I can do but probably should not build my entire life around.
Now we have information.
And information creates direction.
You can deliberately move toward environments that complement your strengths.
You can also become cautious about roles that continually demand abilities that do not naturally fit you.
That does not mean avoiding everything difficult.
NO.
It means learning where your effort produces the greatest return.
HANDS OFF…COMMUNICATIONS ON
Let me use myself.
I can communicate.
That came fairly naturally.
Speaking.
Writing.
Connecting ideas.
Explaining things.
Working with people.
Those areas responded to me.
Listening was different.
I could listen…
but I had to deliberately TRAIN that part.
I had to focus on it.
Practice it.
Develop it.
Now listening complements communication.
One skill strengthened another.
That is important.
Your skills bank is not frozen.
Some deposits are natural.
Others are developed.
But once they begin working together…
now you have something powerful.
Working with my hands?
Different story.
LOL.
I can do it when summoned.
But I am not the guy you want walking into your house saying:
“Don’t worry, Richie will fix it.”
You may want to worry a little.
LOL.
I CAN COOK…BUT NO CHEF
I like cooking.
I can prepare food.
I can follow recipes.
I can certainly feed myself.
But I do not have that deep love of cooking where somebody spends all day thinking about sauces, reductions, spices, presentation, and culinary experiments.
That is not me.
Then put me near a BBQ.
Something changes.
Heat.
Distance.
Timing.
Searing.
When to turn.
When NOT to turn.
How long something needs.
How the meat feels.
There is a natural knowing involved.
Nobody sat me down with a twelve-week BBQ curriculum.
I discovered it by doing.
That is the point.
EXPLORE LONG ENOUGH AND YOUR SKILLS BEGIN IDENTIFYING THEMSELVES.
I KNOW ABOUT ME
I am not particularly drawn to sports.
Maybe it is the competitiveness.
Maybe some of it simply does not hold my attention.
Playoffs?
Different.
Now I enjoy watching people operate at high levels.
Pressure.
Will.
Discipline.
Bodies responding to training.
That interests me.
Exercise, however?
I love it.
My body cooperates.
I learned breathing.
Rhythm.
Hydration.
Salt.
Food.
Recovery.
Nobody had to force that knowledge into me.
My own experience began teaching me.
That is natural knowing at work.
Your own body, mind, emotions, and results are continually giving you information.
The question is whether you are listening.
I CAN GET BY…OR I CAN SOAR
There are things we learn because we HAVE to.
Fine.
That is part of being human.
You learn enough plumbing to stop the leak.
Enough technology to use the computer.
Enough cooking to avoid starving.
Enough paperwork to survive adulthood.
LOL.
That is adaptation.
Then there are things where something inside you wakes up.
You become curious.
Creative.
Focused.
Alive.
You want to do more.
You see things other people miss.
That may be a clue that you have entered your natural territory.
Do not confuse:
“I can get by”
with:
“I can SOAR.”
Both are abilities.
One may be pointing toward identity.
RICHIE SPEAKS
Here is a Richie rule:
Do not spend your whole life trying to turn your weakest ability into your strongest one while ignoring the gift sitting beside it saying:
“HELLO…REMEMBER ME?”
LOL.
And another:
What comes easily to you may look ordinary because YOU are the one doing it.
Ask somebody who cannot do it.
Suddenly your ordinary looks pretty impressive.
THE BULL’S-EYE
People who know their strengths move differently.
They aim better.
They select better.
They recognize opportunities faster.
They also know where help is needed.
That is wisdom too.
Knowing your skills bank does not mean:
“I am good at everything.”
Quite the opposite.
It means:
“I know what I bring.”
And:
“I know when I need somebody whose skills bank contains what mine does not.”
Now teamwork makes sense.
Partnership makes sense.
Hiring makes sense.
Relationships make sense.
We stop demanding that everybody be good at the same things.
Why would they be?
No two skills banks are exactly alike.
PEARLS INSIGHT
Self-awareness grows when we distinguish natural strengths from learned competence.
Both matter, but natural strengths often reveal where our effort creates greater energy, satisfaction, and results.
Experimentation, repetition, honest feedback, and observation help us identify the unique combination of abilities that make up our personal skills bank.
PEARLS CONNECTION
This connects directly with SKILLS BANK — YOUR PERSONAL GIFT WHILE HERE.
That Pearl introduced the idea that something has been deposited within each of us.
This one takes the next step:
HOW DO YOU RECOGNIZE IT?
Use it.
Test it.
Observe yourself.
Watch the results.
Your strengths leave clues.
PEARLS FROM THE BOOKS
A recurring Pearls theme is that identity is not something we manufacture from scratch.
Much of it is discovered.
Life keeps handing us opportunities to notice what fits, what does not, what grows through use, and what continually produces good fruit.
We discover ourselves by participating.
Not merely by thinking about ourselves.
FINAL THOUGHT
Your skills want to produce results.
That is what they are there for.
But first…
YOU have to recognize them.
Practice them.
Develop them.
Respect them.
Then aim them.
You do not need somebody else’s skills bank.
They have theirs.
You have yours.
Learn what is inside.
Then use it deliberately.
BULL’S-EYE.
