Some people are not afraid they will fail.

They are afraid they might actually SUCCEED.

And right when the reward finally gets close enough to touch…

they begin talking themselves out of receiving it.

This may surprise you…

but there is such a thing as FEAR OF SUCCESS.

And it can sabotage a person just as effectively as fear of failure.

The tricky part?

It often works quietly.

Subconsciously.

Behind the scenes.

A person works hard.

Builds.

Learns.

Sacrifices.

Improves.

Gets closer and closer to what they wanted…

and suddenly they begin pulling away from it.

PAUSE.

Why?

Sometimes some old belief, painful experience, humiliation, rejection, or deep inner message is still sitting there saying:

“You are not supposed to have that.”

“You are not worthy.”

“Something bad will happen if you get too successful.”

“People will not like you anymore.”

“Do not get too big.”

That little hidden program can rob a person right at the finish line.

FEAR AS A MOTIVATOR

At the other end of the spectrum is FEAR OF FAILURE.

That one gets talked about more.

People use it to push themselves.

Work harder.

Stay later.

Keep going.

Never stop.

Win at all costs.

And yes…

fear can motivate.

So can a barking dog chasing you down the street.

LOL.

But that does not mean you want to build your entire life around it.

Fear of failure may get somebody moving.

But eventually the fear itself has to be examined.

Otherwise the person never really enjoys what they accomplish.

They are not pursuing success anymore.

They are running FROM failure.

There is a difference.

FEAR MUST BE EXPOSED

Fear can be useful as a survival mechanism.

Danger appears.

The body reacts.

Fine.

But fear can also become learned.

Repeated.

Stored.

And then applied where no true danger exists.

Something happens to a child.

Embarrassment.

Failure.

Rejection.

Loss.

Harsh criticism.

Being told:

“Who do you think you are?”

Years later…

the adult may still be answering that old question without realizing it.

That is why fear needs light.

Expose it.

Name it.

Ask:

WHAT EXACTLY AM I AFRAID WILL HAPPEN IF I SUCCEED?

Interesting question.

Will people expect more from me?

Will I lose friends?

Will I have more responsibility?

Will I be criticized?

Will I have to maintain it?

Will I no longer have an excuse?

There it is.

Sometimes success is frightening because it changes the story we have been telling ourselves.

ROBBER LURKING IN THE SHADOWS

Many people work long and hard toward a dream.

Business.

Career.

Relationship.

Financial goal.

Creative project.

Personal transformation.

They imagine the satisfaction of finally completing the circle.

Then just as everything begins coming together…

something inside starts causing trouble.

Procrastination.

Doubt.

Careless mistakes.

Pulling back.

Picking fights.

Overspending.

Quitting too early.

Suddenly creating reasons why the whole thing was never important anyway.

LOL.

Interesting timing.

That may not be bad luck.

It may be fear trying to protect an old identity.

You are allowed to reap what you sow.

Let me say that again.

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO REAP WHAT YOU SOW.

If you planted well…

worked…

learned…

persisted…

corrected mistakes…

and finally the harvest appears…

take the harvest.

There is nothing noble about refusing the fruit after doing all the planting.

IT IS NOT HARD TO SUCCEED…BUT SOMETIMES HARD TO ACCEPT

This is the strange part.

Some people can work incredibly hard toward success…

but struggle to RECEIVE it.

Compliment them?

They dismiss it.

Pay them more?

They feel guilty.

Recognize their achievement?

They downplay it.

Opportunity knocks?

They suddenly find fifteen reasons not to answer the door.

LOL.

Success may require a new skill:

ACCEPTANCE.

Receiving without apology.

Saying:

“Thank you.”

Standing in what you earned.

Allowing yourself to enjoy the result.

Not bragging.

Not becoming arrogant.

Simply accepting.

That is very different.

THE STORM BEFORE THE FINISH LINE

I have noticed something else.

Right before success becomes real…

obstacles often seem to multiply.

Some are external.

Some are very much internal.

Doubt suddenly becomes louder.

Second thoughts arrive.

Fatigue shows up.

You start asking:

“Was this all worth it?”

“What if it falls apart?”

“What if I cannot handle it?”

PAUSE.

You may be standing ten feet from the finish line.

Do not confuse last-minute fear with a new truth.

Sometimes the fear gets loud because it knows it is about to lose its job.

LOL.

Stay the course.

Look at the facts.

Remember why you started.

Then keep moving.

RICHIE SPEAKS

Here is one Richie rule:

Do not spend ten years knocking on the door…

then run away when somebody finally opens it.

LOL.

And another:

If success feels uncomfortable…

maybe you need to get comfortable being worthy.

One more:

You do not have to apologize for receiving the harvest from seeds YOU planted.

SUCCESS DOES NOT REQUIRE GUILT

Sometimes people associate success with selfishness.

No.

Success itself is neutral.

What you DO with it matters.

Money can help.

Influence can help.

Knowledge can help.

Experience can help.

A successful person who remains grounded can become very useful.

You do not have to shrink yourself to make other people comfortable.

You also do not have to become obnoxious because something went well.

LOL.

There is plenty of room between invisibility and arrogance.

It is called:

GRACE.

PEARLS INSIGHT

Fear of success can appear as procrastination, self-sabotage, discomfort with recognition, difficulty receiving rewards, or a sudden urge to retreat when meaningful progress is near.

Awareness helps expose the pattern.

Acceptance allows the person to receive the results of their own growth without guilt or apology.

PEARLS CONNECTION

This connects directly with TELL DOUBT AND SECOND THOUGHTS TO GET LOST.

Doubt often becomes loud near important decisions.

This Pearl adds another layer:

Sometimes the doubt appears not because you are going the wrong way…

but because you are finally getting close to something you once believed was beyond you.

It also connects with SKILLS BANK.

Recognize your ability.

Use it.

Develop it.

And when the results come…

RECEIVE THEM.

FINAL THOUGHT

Success is not merely reaching the destination.

Sometimes success is allowing yourself to STAY there.

To receive.

To enjoy.

To accept the compliment.

Accept the opportunity.

Accept the reward.

Accept the fact that your work produced fruit.

Fear may show up at the finish line.

Fine.

Let it watch.

You keep walking.

And when success finally reaches out its hand…

do not slap it away.

SHAKE IT.

LOL.

You earned the introduction.
