Beginnings get all the excitement.
Endings get all the judgment.
But somewhere in between…
the real work happens.
Finishing what you start.
You have heard that before.
How about:
HOW YOU BEGIN SOMETHING MAY HELP DETERMINE HOW IT ENDS.
Or:
IT IS NOT HOW MANY TIMES YOU FALL…
BUT HOW MANY TIMES YOU GET UP.
Or:
THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH ONE STEP.
Or:
DO NOT PUT OFF UNTIL TOMORROW WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY.
Good sayings.
All of them.
But they point in different directions.
So which one matters more?

THE BEGINNING…
or
THE ENDING?
BEGINNINGS GET ATTENTION
Beginnings are exciting.
They carry:
hope,
energy,
possibility,
anticipation,
and imagination.
Two people meet.
They court.
They fall in love.
They marry.
BEGINNING.
You book a European vacation.
BEGINNING.
You enter a career.
BEGINNING.
You sign up for a self-awareness course.
BEGINNING.
You buy Real Estate.
BEGINNING.
You get the listing.
BEGINNING.
Life is full of beginnings.
Some are planned.
Some arrive unexpectedly.
Some are welcomed.
Some are forced upon us.
But every beginning says one thing:
SOMETHING HAS NOW STARTED.
PAUSE FOR CAUSE.
A beginning is powerful because without it…
nothing moves.
NO START…NO STORY
You cannot finish what was never started.
That sounds obvious…
but many people spend years waiting for the perfect beginning.
The perfect time.
The perfect amount of money.
The perfect partner.
The perfect plan.
The perfect confidence.
Then nothing begins.
At some point…
you must STEP.
That first move matters.
It creates motion.
It creates information.
It creates experience.
The beginning opens the door.
ENDINGS GET JUDGED
Now consider endings.
This is where people look back and ask:
WHAT HAPPENED?
Did the marriage endure?
Did the trip become worthwhile?
Did the career mean something?
Did the course change anything?
Did the Real Estate investment perform?
Did the transaction close?
The ending gets measured.
People say:
It worked.
It failed.
It lasted.
It fell apart.
It was worth it.
It was not.
That gives endings enormous weight.
BEGIN WELL…FINISH WELL
A good beginning helps.
Preparation matters.
Intentions matter.
Choosing wisely matters.
Starting with clarity matters.
But a strong beginning does not guarantee a strong ending.
Two people can begin marriage deeply in love…
and still neglect the relationship later.
A business can launch beautifully…
and collapse from poor management.
A trip can start badly…
and become unforgettable.
A career can begin slowly…
and become extraordinary.
So the beginning matters.
But it does not control everything.
THE MIDDLE IS HIDING SOMETHING
Here is where I think the question gets interesting.
Maybe the real answer is hiding between the two.
THE MIDDLE.
That is where:
habits,
choices,
adjustments,
patience,
discipline,
communication,
and persistence
do their work.
The beginning starts it.
The ending reveals it.
But the middle BUILDS it.
That may be the missing piece.
TWO PEOPLE MEET
Take marriage.
The beginning may be:
romance,
attraction,
hope,
commitment.
The ending may be:
a lifetime together…
or separation.
But what determines much of that?
The middle.
Daily conduct.
Forgiveness.
Conversation.
Loyalty.
Adaptation.
Patience.
Shared experience.
The middle gets very little applause…
but does most of the heavy lifting.
REAL ESTATE MAKES THIS OBVIOUS
You get the listing.
Great beginning.
Everybody is smiling.
Photos.
Marketing.
Sign goes up.
Now what?
The middle begins.
Calls.
Showings.
Feedback.
Negotiation.
Problems.
Inspections.
Appraisal.
Financing.
Paperwork.
Adjustments.
Then finally…
ESCROW CLOSED.
Ending.
Everybody celebrates the closing.
But the work that made the closing possible happened between the listing appointment and the signature.
That is the middle.
THE END CAN REDEEM A ROUGH START
Some beginnings are terrible.
Wrong turn.
Bad timing.
Mistake.
Confusion.
Failure.
But a rough beginning does not automatically own the ending.
People recover.
They learn.
They change.
They rebuild.
They finish stronger than they started.
That matters.
One bad first chapter does not require a bad final chapter.
THE BEGINNING CAN ALSO FOOL YOU
Some things start beautifully.
Easy.
Exciting.
Promising.
Then later…
the weaknesses show.
That is why beginnings should not be overvalued either.
Early success can create false confidence.
A good start is not permission to stop paying attention.
The race is not finished because you looked good leaving the starting line.
LOL.
FINISHING STRONG
There is something honorable about finishing well.
Keeping your word.
Completing the job.
Staying present.
Following through.
Not disappearing when enthusiasm wears off.
A strong ending says:
I DID NOT ONLY START WITH INTENTION.
I STAYED WITH IT.
That means something.
But again…
the ending is often the receipt for how you handled the middle.
RICHIE SPEAKS
Here is one Richie rule:
The beginning opens the door.
The ending tells you where you arrived.
The middle decides much of the journey.
Another:
Do not worship a good start.
And do not surrender because of a bad one.
And one more:
Finish strong…
but remember that strong endings are usually built one ordinary day at a time.
PEARLS FROM THE BOOKS
From the spirit of Pearls for the Soul:
“Beginnings create possibility, endings reveal outcome, but daily conduct gives the journey its shape.”
From the spirit of God I AM:
“What is started with intention still requires faithful participation before it becomes fulfilled.”
From the spirit of It Is Finished:
“Do not let a poor beginning condemn the ending, nor let a strong beginning excuse neglect in the middle.”
PEARLS INSIGHT
Beginnings and endings serve different functions.
Beginnings create activation.
Endings create evaluation.
But sustained outcomes are usually shaped by what happens between them.
That middle period includes:
practice,
maintenance,
correction,
adaptation,
and persistence.
This is why process often matters more than isolated moments.
A strong start without follow-through can fail.
A weak start with disciplined correction can still succeed.
PEARLS CONNECTION
This connects directly with STEP BY STEP YOU WILL PREVAIL…TRUE LIFE STORY.
The ending is reached through repeated movement.
It also connects with WANTING TO RISE, CLIMB AND GET AHEAD…ALL OF US.
The summit matters…
but the climb creates the person who reaches it.
And ACTION PLANS REQUIRE MOVING WITH A PURPOSE reminds us that plans only become results through continued execution.
FINAL SAY
So…
which is more important?
THE BEGINNING?
Yes.
THE ENDING?
Yes.
But if you force me to choose…
I would say neither one stands alone.
The beginning gives you ENTRY.
The ending gives you MEANING.
The middle gives you the RESULT.
Start well.
Adjust when needed.
Stay present.
Keep moving.
Then finish with enough character that you can look back and say:
I DID NOT JUST BEGIN WELL.
I LIVED THE JOURNEY WELL.
And maybe that is the real answer.
The beginning matters.
The ending matters.
But what you DO between them…
usually decides both.
