YOU ARE BEING ROBBED TOO!
YOU ASK WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
YOUR JOY, PEACE & SATISFACTION IS DISTURBED
Life is serious enough without helping it.
Laugh.
Smile.
Grin.
Enjoy the absurdity.
You may discover that FUN was part of the trip all along.
Life is worth a good long respectful laugh.
A giggle.
A grin.
A smile.
Even the occasional strange little noise that escapes before you can stop it.
LOL.

Start with yourself.
That is the safest place.
I find things worth laughing about everywhere I go.
Not laughing AT people.
Laughing WITH them.
Or at:
circumstances,
ideas,
procedures,
timing,
surprises,
and especially outcomes.
Human nature is the wild card.
You never completely know what is coming next.
That alone keeps things interesting.
NATURAL LAUGHTER IS THE BEST
I do not need a comedian standing in front of me.
I do not need somebody to deliver a perfectly timed joke.
Sometimes something simply happens…
and laughter arrives.
No permission required.
A quick glance.
A passing thought.
A strange coincidence.
An amusing story told just right.
Something inside says:
THAT IS FUNNY.
And out it comes.
That is the kind I like.
Real.
Immediate.
Unplanned.
DON’T FORCE IT
Forced laughter does not work for me.
In fact…
it can be worse than no laughter at all.
You know the sound.
Somebody laughs because everybody else is laughing.
Or because they think they are SUPPOSED to laugh.
No.
Let it be real.
Laughter does not have to last ten minutes to count.
Sometimes one quick burst is enough.
Quality matters more than duration.
THE SERIOUS TRAP
Now here is the danger.
It is very easy to become serious.
Sometimes seriousness is necessary.
Of course.
But some people enter serious mode…
and apparently misplace the exit.
LOL.
Everything becomes:
heavy,
urgent,
worrisome,
complicated,
dramatic.
After a while…
their own face starts advertising the condition.
You can almost read it like a billboard.
OH NO.
WHAT NOW?
WHAT IF?
WHY ME?
That expression becomes permanent.
PAUSE FOR CAUSE.
Not every situation deserves lifetime residency inside your face.
Some things need permission to PASS.
Handle them.
Observe them.
Learn from them.
Then let them move on.
YOU stay.
The circumstance goes.
GATEWAY TO THE SELF
I have smiled at people…
and watched them change right in front of me.
Their face softens.
Their eyes brighten.
Their whole presence becomes more attractive.
It makes me wonder:
WHY DON’T WE USE THAT MODE MORE OFTEN?
Some people carry around the permanent expression of:
DEEP IN THOUGHT.
Or:
WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?
Or worse…
the famous deer-in-the-headlights look.
LOL.
Unless you are actually a deer…
that is probably not your best permanent expression.
Smiling can reveal another part of the person.
Sometimes a lighter one.
Sometimes the more genuine one.
LAUGHTER LETS AIR INTO THE ROOM
Seriousness can close a room up.
Laughter opens a window.
Not always.
Not in every situation.
But often enough.
A little humor can:
break tension,
soften embarrassment,
reduce defensiveness,
make people more comfortable,
and remind everyone that nobody in the room is perfect.
That can be useful.
Especially when humans are involved.
Which is almost always.
LOL.
DON’T LAUGH AT PEOPLE…LAUGH WITH THEM
This distinction matters.
Humor can connect.
It can also hurt.
There is a big difference between:
sharing the funny moment
and
making somebody the target.
Good laughter includes.
Cruel laughter excludes.
If somebody is embarrassed…
help them recover.
If somebody makes a harmless mistake…
laugh WITH them if they laugh too.
Do not use humor as a weapon and then call it fun.
That is not what I am talking about.
THE BEST TARGET MAY BE YOU
If you can laugh at yourself…
life gets lighter.
You said something foolish?
Fine.
You walked into the wrong room?
Fine.
You misunderstood something completely?
Fine.
Learn.
Then laugh.
Some of my best stories came from moments I would not have volunteered for at the time.
Years later?
Comedy.
Funny how time does that.
GOING POSTAL?
Now…
do not overdo it.
LOL.
If you suddenly start laughing loudly in public for no obvious reason…
people may become concerned.
Today, strangers do not always know what they are looking at.
So if I burst out laughing…
and somebody looks alarmed…
I may explain what triggered it.
Problem solved.
Humor works best when it invites people in…
not when it makes them wonder whether they should slowly back away.
THE WORLD OF SERIOUS PEOPLE
There are people who seem to believe seriousness equals importance.
It does not.
A person can be:
responsible,
intelligent,
disciplined,
professional,
and still laugh.
In fact…
the strongest people I have known often had a sense of humor.
Why?
Because they had perspective.
They knew what mattered.
And they knew what did not deserve the same weight.
That is wisdom.
LAUGHTER IS NOT DENIAL
Another distinction.
Laughing does not mean pretending problems do not exist.
That would be avoidance.
Healthy humor says:
YES…
this is happening.
AND…
I do not have to let it own every part of me.
That is different.
Sometimes a laugh gives you just enough distance to see the problem more clearly.
Then you can deal with it better.
FUN IS NOT IMMATURE
We tell children:
GO HAVE FUN.
Then somewhere along the line…
adults begin acting like fun is suspicious.
Why?
You can enjoy life and still pay the bills.
You can laugh and still be responsible.
You can be playful and still be competent.
Fun is not the opposite of maturity.
Sometimes it is evidence that maturity has finally stopped needing to look miserable.
LOL.
SMILES TRAVEL
Smiles are interesting.
You give one away…
and often get one back.
No invoice.
No contract.
No negotiation.
Just:
SMILE.
RESPONSE.
There is something wonderfully simple about that.
And if the other person does not smile back?
Fine.
You still exercised the smile muscles.
No loss.
RICHIE SPEAKS
Here is one Richie rule:
Do not confuse being serious with being important.
Another:
If you can laugh at yourself, other people’s mistakes become easier to forgive.
And one more:
Life will provide enough heaviness on its own.
You do not need to manufacture extra.
PEARLS FROM THE BOOKS
From the spirit of Pearls for the Soul:
“Joy often enters through the small opening seriousness forgot to close.”
From the spirit of God I AM:
“What is alive within you was not created only to worry, endure, and calculate.”
From the spirit of It Is Finished:
“Release the burden after the lesson is learned and allow lightness to return.”
PEARLS INSIGHT
Humor can be a useful form of perspective.
Healthy laughter may help reduce tension, strengthen social connection, and create emotional distance from minor frustrations.
The key is context.
Humor works best when it is:
genuine,
kind,
well-timed,
and not used to avoid serious issues that actually require attention.
The goal is not to turn everything into a joke.
It is to avoid turning everything into a burden.
PEARLS CONNECTION
This connects directly with BECOMING TOO SERIOUS.
When seriousness becomes the default setting, life starts feeling heavier than necessary.
It also connects with IF YOU ARE GOING TO BEAT YOURSELF UP…USE A FEATHER, NOT A STICK.
Humor can soften self-correction.
And PONDER THE MYSTERY OF DOING NOTHING CORRECTLY reminds us that life does not always need to be attacked, managed, or analyzed.
Sometimes it should simply be enjoyed.
FINAL SAY
If you are not laughing…
you may be missing something.
Not because everything is funny.
It is not.
But because everything does not deserve the same emotional weight.
Laugh when it is funny.
Smile when it feels good.
Grin at your own foolishness.
Enjoy the strange little things people do.
Let harmless mistakes become stories.
Give circumstances permission to pass.
Do not get trapped inside permanent seriousness.
Life is serious enough.
You do not need to help it.
And remember…
the person who can still laugh…
still has room inside for JOY.
So look around.
Test it.
Smile at someone.
Laugh when the moment gives you permission.
And see whether the world laughs with you.
I have tried it.
It holds up pretty well.
