YOU DID’NT KNOW HOW VALUABLE YOU REALLY TRULY ARE.

THAT’S A GOOD START FOR ANYTHING YOU HAVE PLANNED

There is no other you in the universe.

Yet many people spend years learning everything except who they are, what brings them alive, what they do best—and why.

I am talking about figuring yourself out.

Who are you?

What do you like?

What do you do best?

What brings you peace?

What repeatedly calls for your attention?

And why?

It bears repeating that there is not another YOU in the universe.

That makes you one of a kind.

Special.

Unrepeatable.

Still unfolding.

People often place this subject on the back burner while attending to work, family, responsibility, survival, and everybody else’s expectations.

Eventually, a transition may force the question forward.

Midlife.

Retirement.

Children leaving home.

A health challenge.

The ending of a relationship or career.

A sudden awareness that time has moved faster than expected.

Sooner is better, I might add.

WORTHY NOTE: You are more than your passing thoughts, temporary opinions, assigned roles, mistakes, or what other people have decided to call you.

START HERE: WE GREW TOO FAST

People grow up too quickly for many reasons—some healthy and some painful.

Responsibility may arrive early.

Circumstances may demand maturity before childhood has completed its visit.

But whatever happened, there comes a time when you must seize your own ship and begin plotting your own course.

No more winds of blame.

No more excuses powered by complaint.

No.

You can wander only so long before wandering becomes your chosen direction.

Activate purpose.

Seek it deliberately.

WHAT A PRIZE YOU ARE

Spending quality time with yourself can be fascinating and revealing.

By “quality time,” I mean enough honest attention to observe yourself without immediately performing for somebody else.

What interests you when no one is grading you?

What do you naturally organize, repair, study, teach, protect, create, or improve?

What leaves you satisfied rather than merely distracted?

I have seen many people remain in roles they do not handle well—and do not even like—until complacency becomes easier than movement.

That does not awaken the adventurous spirit.

It does not produce much inner growth.

Even a seed must break through the ground.

A chick must peck through its shell.

Waiting has its season, but hanging around forever does not cut it.

Deliberate action leads the way.

Put legs on life!

PEACE, CONTENTMENT, AND PURPOSE

What are we really seeking?

Something called well-being.

We want to experience a life that fits closely enough to produce peace, meaning, engagement, and contentment.

This does not mean arranging a world in which nothing difficult happens.

It means discovering what strengthens your life and what continuously drains it.

Take on what serves your growth.

Let go of what repeatedly works against it.

Finding what brings genuine happiness and contentment helps you experience living rather than merely existing.

That is called engagement.

WORTHY NOTE: Well-being is not constant pleasure. It is a deeper sense that your life, choices, relationships, and direction are becoming more honest.

APPLY FOR INSTANT HELP—HERE

For those who grew up too fast, it is not too late to revisit the land of childhood.

Return to something harmless that once brought delight.

A favorite song.

A familiar place.

A game.

Drawing.

Bicycling.

A movie you loved.

Or use Richie’s quick-connect method:

Have an ice cream.

Enjoy a lollipop.

Instant kid feelings may report for duty. LOL.

The point is not the sugar.

The point is remembering the child who experienced wonder before everything became duty, performance, and responsibility.

Remember that kid?

Still there.

THE SONG OF THE SIREN

It is easy to become caught in the world and everything pulling upon us.

Making a living can demand relentless attention.

Raising a family brings love, responsibility, and sometimes exhaustion.

Then comes the pursuit of possessions, recognition, status, or the next achievement that supposedly will solve every problem.

Welcome to Life 101.

The siren song says:

“When you obtain this, you will finally become complete.”

But completion cannot be permanently purchased from outside.

The mystery of you waits inside for investigation.

PAUSE FOR CAUSE

You may have your entire life to figure things out—but that is not permission to postpone yourself forever.

Why place unnecessary pressure on every discovery?

Some people rush through an experience simply to get it over with.

But the experience they hurried through was the journey in disguise.

Patience and moderation allow understanding to arrive at a pace you can absorb.

Clear a path to your door.

Give the next part of you room to enter.

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO CHANGE

Discovering yourself does not produce a permanent label.

What interested you at twenty may not satisfy you at seventy.

A role that once fit may become too small.

A dream may mature.

A talent may appear late.

Changing does not prove that the earlier you was false.

It may simply mean the mystery is continuing to unfold.

CHOOSING WITHOUT GUILT

Part of knowing yourself is recognizing your likes and dislikes without demanding that everyone share them.

You may choose without condemning.

You may decline without becoming cruel.

You may outgrow something without declaring that it was always worthless.

Learning to choose without unnecessary guilt is a major step toward personal freedom.

PEARLS INSIGHT

Self-discovery is not about inventing a more impressive character.

It is about removing enough noise to recognize the person already attempting to emerge.

RICHIE SPEAKS

Do not confuse being yourself with doing whatever you feel like doing.

The real you possesses conscience, responsibility, talents, limits, and concern for others.

Self-discovery should make you more useful, honest, peaceful, and alive—not more selfish.

Find yourself, then bring something worthwhile back to the world.

WHAT AWAITS

Discover your likes and dislikes.

Learn to choose without drowning in guilt.

Practice giving and receiving.

Let go of what has completed its purpose.

Develop the ability to remain inwardly steady when outside conditions shift.

Then the real one-of-a-kind you—that special, decent person entitled to participate fully in life—will have solved part of the pleasurable mystery.

Ahh…

But that is only the beginning.

FINAL SAY

Seize your ship.

Plot your course.

Break through the ground.

Peck through the shell.

Have an ice cream if necessary.

But do not place the mystery of you permanently on the back burner.

You are one of a kind.

Find out what that means.
