Some people see obstacles.
Others see opportunities.
The difference is often one thing:
The will to keep going.
There are certain sayings that survive generation after generation because they contain a simple truth.
This is one of them.

WHERE THERE IS A WILL… THERE IS A WAY.
I have used this saying to raise children.
I have used it to motivate myself.
I have used it to challenge negative thinking.
I have used it when life appeared to have painted me into a corner.
And every time I revisit it, I find the same lesson waiting for me.
As long as you are above ground…
Anything remains possible.
Some people spend their lives explaining why things cannot be done.
Others spend their lives figuring out how to do them.
Which group would you rather belong to?
I remember many times in my younger years wanting things I did not have.
A better vehicle.
A home.
Financial security.
More opportunities.
The easy way always looked attractive.
Who doesn’t like shortcuts?
But eventually I discovered something.
What worked for me was simple.
WORK FOR IT.
WORK HARD.
STAY WITH IT.
Eventually, things begin to happen.
The rewards may not arrive on your schedule, but they often arrive.
One of the greatest gifts a person can develop is the ability to focus.
Take your skills.
Take your talents.
Take your determination.
Then point them all in one direction.
Like a laser beam.
Amazing things happen when scattered energy becomes focused energy.
My wife and I learned this lesson many times.
When we wanted our first child, there was a will and there was certainly a way.
That part worked out quite nicely.
But life continued presenting new goals.
We both worked.
We saved.
We sacrificed.
Eventually a new truck appeared for me.
A new car appeared for her.
Then came a home.
Not because someone handed them to us.
Not because we got lucky.
Because there was a goal.
There was effort.
There was commitment.
And where there was a will…
There was a way.
One thing I have observed over the years is this:
Most things people want are possible.
The challenge is that many stop before they arrive.
They become discouraged.
They become distracted.
They become impatient.
Or worse…
They begin talking themselves out of their own dreams.
As I wrote in Pearls for the Soul:
“The distance between a dream and a reality is often measured by perseverance.”
— Richie Naggar, Pearls for the Soul
America has always been built upon this idea.
People arrive here from all over the world believing that if they work hard, save money, create opportunity, and remain persistent, good things can happen.
And often they do.
Not because success is guaranteed.
But because effort matters.
The right to pursue happiness was never a promise that happiness would be delivered to your doorstep.
It was permission to go after it.
There is a difference.
NASA didn’t put a man on the moon because it was easy.
They put a man on the moon because someone refused to accept that it couldn’t be done.
Every great accomplishment begins with someone deciding that the obstacle is not the end of the story.
It is merely part of the story.
Stop explaining your dreams away.
Stop daydreaming without action.
Stop making excuses.
Roll up your sleeves.
Adjust your thinking.
Choose a target.
Take aim.
And keep aiming until you hit it.
You may surprise yourself.
You may inspire others.
You may discover strengths you never knew you possessed.
Remember…
As long as you are above ground…
The possibilities remain.
WHERE THERE IS A WILL…
THERE IS A WAY.
— Richie
