You can fake a smile.

You can fake enthusiasm.

You can even fake commitment.

But sooner or later…

Your heart tells on you.

Think about this for a moment.

Have you ever been around someone whose heart simply wasn’t in what they were doing?

A teacher who doesn’t want to teach.

An employee who doesn’t want to work.

A customer service representative who doesn’t want to help.

A manager who doesn’t want to lead.

A spouse who doesn’t want to participate.

A friend who doesn’t want to be there.

You know exactly what I am talking about.

We see it everywhere.

The problem is that when the heart leaves, the person eventually follows.

The body may still be present.

The clock may still be running.

The paycheck may still be arriving.

But the spirit of the thing is gone.

And everyone around them feels it.

WHY DON’T PEOPLE STOP?

The answers are familiar.

“I need the money.”

“The benefits are good.”

“I can’t find anything else.”

“It’s only temporary.”

Maybe.

But temporary has a way of becoming permanent.

Years pass.

The same complaints continue.

The same unhappiness remains.

The same lack of enthusiasm infects everyone around them.

I have seen Real Estate agents who clearly do not enjoy helping people.

Teachers who seem annoyed by students.

Customer service representatives who look for reasons to say no instead of yes.

Employees who do only enough to avoid being noticed.

Managers who have forgotten how to inspire.

Business owners who have lost their original dream.

And family members who go through the motions while their hearts are somewhere else entirely.

The common denominator is simple.

THE HEART IS MISSING.

When your heart is absent, your contribution suffers.

When your contribution suffers, everyone around you suffers too.

The customer feels it.

The student feels it.

The spouse feels it.

The children feel it.

The employees feel it.

The public feels it.

People may not be able to explain it.

But they can feel it.

As I often say:

If your heart is missing…

So are you.

There is something magical about a person whose heart is fully engaged.

A teacher who loves teaching.

A nurse who loves helping.

A craftsman who loves creating.

A business owner who loves serving.

A parent who loves parenting.

A friend who loves being a friend.

These people radiate something.

Energy.

Purpose.

Authenticity.

Passion.

The work becomes more than work.

The service becomes more than service.

Life itself becomes richer.

People are drawn to those who show up with their whole heart.

Not because they are perfect.

But because they are present.

One of the recurring themes throughout Pearls for the Soul is this:

“Whatever you do, do it with all your heart. Half-hearted living produces half-lived lives.”

— Richie Naggar, Pearls for the Soul

That statement has followed me for years.

Because it is true.

If you have something to say…

Say it with all your heart.

If you have something to do…

Do it with all your heart.

If you have someone to love…

Love them with all your heart.

If you choose a profession…

Give it your best.

If you choose a path…

Walk it fully.

Stop getting by.

Stop going through the motions.

Stop pretending.

Life is too precious for that.

You deserve better.

The people around you deserve better.

And the work itself deserves better.

Go where your heart can participate.

Bring your best.

Bring your passion.

Bring your presence.

Because when the heart arrives…

Everything changes.

Bet the heart.

It remains one of the safest investments you will ever make.
