DON’T ADD A PROBLEM
TO YOUR PROBLEM
Anger feels powerful.
But most of the time, it steals power.
It clouds judgment.
It delays solutions.
And it often leaves behind more damage than the original problem ever could.

ANGER IS NOT GOOD ENERGY
DON’T ADD A PROBLEM
TO YOUR PROBLEM
I watch people every day who struggle to put into words what they are feeling.
Instead of communicating clearly, they reach for the quickest weapon available.
Emotion.
Unfortunately, when emotions become the weapon of choice, emotions often become the return fire as well.
The result?
Much is said.
Little is understood.
And the original problem quietly slips into the background while a new one takes center stage.
ANGER CLOUDS THE ISSUE
Anger is one of the most revealing emotions a person can experience.
It tells us something is bothering us.
Something feels threatened.
Something feels unfair.
Something hurts.
But anger itself is rarely the solution.
In fact, anger often becomes a distraction from the very thing that needs attention.
You now have two problems.
The original problem.
And the anger surrounding it.
Why make life harder than it already is?
JUDGMENT FUELS ANGER
The moment we become judge, jury, and executioner in our minds, anger begins to gather strength.
We rehearse offenses.
We replay conversations.
We assign motives.
We build cases.
We prepare arguments.
Before long, we are no longer seeking understanding.
We are seeking victory.
That rarely ends well.
TIME OUT…
MAKE IT YOUR FRIEND
One of the most valuable skills a person can develop is the ability to pause.
Not quit.
Pause.
Step back.
Assess.
Observe.
Reflect.
Consider.
A problem that is three feet deep is much easier to climb out of than one that has grown into a six-foot hole.
Anger has a way of digging deeper while convincing us we are making progress.
We are not.
We are simply digging.
THE PEARLS PRINCIPLE
One of my favorite Pearls says:
“There is a time in the life of every problem when it is big enough to see, yet small enough to solve.”
— Pearls for the Soul 7.35
What wisdom lives inside that statement.
Every problem has a window.
A moment.
A season.
A point where clear thinking can still resolve it.
Anger often causes us to miss that window.
Instead of solving the problem, we feed it.
Instead of addressing the issue, we energize it.
ANGER LEAVES A STAIN BEHIND
I have watched parents make excellent points while correcting children.
Yet the child remembers only the anger.
Not the lesson.
Not the wisdom.
Not the correction.
The anger.
The message became overshadowed by the delivery.
The same thing happens in marriages.
Friendships.
Businesses.
Politics.
Courtrooms.
Communities.
When anger dominates, the message suffers.
People remember how you made them feel long after they forget what you said.
TAKE A DEEP BREATH
When life delivers a shock, an insult, a disappointment, a betrayal, or a setback, give yourself permission to breathe.
Pause.
Slow down.
Take a walk.
Pray.
Reflect.
Sleep on it.
Let the emotional storm pass before making permanent decisions.
Some of the greatest regrets in life were born from temporary emotions.
THE PEARLS CONNECTION
Throughout Pearls for the Soul, one recurring theme appears:
Respond.
Don’t react.
There is a difference.
Reaction is emotional.
Response is intentional.
Reaction is immediate.
Response is thoughtful.
Reaction often creates consequences.
Response often creates solutions.
In God I AM, readers are reminded that clarity comes through awareness.
In Pearls for the Soul, wisdom repeatedly calls us to observation before action.
In Epilogue of Ebenezer Scrooge, transformation begins only when emotion gives way to understanding.
RIGHT THE WRONG…
CORRECTLY
This does not mean becoming passive.
It does not mean ignoring injustice.
It does not mean remaining silent.
It means handling problems correctly.
Address what is wrong.
Stand for what is right.
Speak the truth.
Defend what is fair.
But do so without surrendering yourself to anger.
Because anger is expensive.
It costs clarity.
It costs peace.
It costs relationships.
It costs opportunities.
And sometimes it costs years.
FINAL THOUGHT
When wronged, pause.
When offended, pause.
When hurt, pause.
When angry, pause.
Then ask yourself:
Am I solving the problem…
Or becoming part of it?
Because anger is not good energy.
Solutions are.
