I KNOW YOU
If you are suffering…
I see you.
If you are hurting…
I understand more than you know.
If you are tired of carrying burdens that never seem to end…
Pull up a chair.
Let’s talk.

SUFFERING, HURTING, HOPELESS, TIRED?
I KNOW YOU
You see, I have traveled the hard road.
Not because I chose it.
Because it chose me.
Had life been easier, perhaps some of the lessons would never have reached me.
Had every door opened easily, perhaps I would never have learned persistence.
Had every answer been handed to me, perhaps I would never have learned wisdom.
Looking back now, I see that many of the hardships that once felt like punishment were actually instruction.
Painful instruction.
But instruction nonetheless.
HOW I MADE IT THIS FAR…
I DO NOT KNOW
There are moments in my life that still leave me shaking my head.
Circumstances I should not have survived.
Mistakes I should not have recovered from.
Detours I should not have found my way through.
Yet somehow I did.
Not because I was smarter.
Not because I was stronger.
Not because I had all the answers.
Grace was at work long before I knew what grace was.
Many of us are walking miracles and don’t even realize it.
BEING POOR IS HARD…
BUT NOT HOPELESS
I remember growing up with holes in my shoes.
At first it meant nothing.
A kid doesn’t compare his life to others very much.
Then someone points it out.
Then you become aware.
Then you begin comparing.
Then you feel less than.
Many people carry those moments for years.
Not because of the hole in the shoe.
Because of the hole it created in their confidence.
But hear me carefully.
Your circumstances are not your identity.
Your bank account is not your value.
Your hardships are not your destiny.
GROWING UP FAST
Marriage.
Children.
Bills.
Responsibilities.
Work.
Pressure.
The world has a way of accelerating adulthood.
Many men and women become workhorses simply because those they love depend upon them.
They get up.
Go to work.
Come home exhausted.
Then do it again.
Not because they are chasing greatness.
Because they love their families.
There is honor in that.
There is dignity in that.
There is greatness in that.
TOOK A LICKIN’
BUT KEPT ON TICKIN’
One of the recurring Pearls themes is resilience.
Not perfection.
Resilience.
Life will knock you down.
Sometimes hard.
Sometimes repeatedly.
Sometimes unfairly.
The goal is not avoiding every blow.
The goal is getting back up.
Again.
And again.
And again.
The comeback is often more important than the setback.
As I have written before:
“No one got to where they are without the help of another.”
Sometimes the help comes from a friend.
Sometimes from a stranger.
Sometimes from a book.
Sometimes from God.
Sometimes from a single sentence arriving exactly when you needed it.
THE PRICE FOR HAVING LIFE
Over time I learned something profound.
The price for having life…
Is to live it.
Not merely survive it.
Not merely endure it.
Live it.
Feel it.
Experience it.
Learn from it.
Share it.
Grow through it.
Life does not ask us to understand everything.
Life asks us to participate.
PEARLS FOR THE SOUL
One of the central messages throughout the Pearls Series is that treasure is often hidden where we least want to look.
Inside hardship.
Inside disappointment.
Inside loss.
Inside struggle.
Inside suffering.
Gold is discovered under pressure.
Character is forged under pressure.
Faith is strengthened under pressure.
Compassion is born under pressure.
You may not see it today.
You may not feel it today.
But if you keep moving forward, one day you will look back and realize that what almost broke you…
Built you.
TO THE PERSON READING THIS
If you are suffering…
Keep going.
If you are hurting…
Keep going.
If you are tired…
Rest if you must.
But do not quit.
If you feel hopeless…
Borrow hope from someone who still has some.
That is why we are here for one another.
Remember:
You are not alone.
You are not forgotten.
You are not finished.
Your story is still being written.
