You woke up this morning.

And waiting for you was something extraordinary:

A WHOLE DAY.

Twenty-four hours.

Nobody has lived this exact day before.

Nobody ever will again.

So…

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO SPEND IT?

Every day is a good day.

Now before somebody argues with me…

I did not say every day is easy.

I did not say every day is pleasant.

I did not say every day goes according to plan.

I said:

EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY.

Why?

Because you are here to participate in it.

That alone deserves some consideration.

You wake up in the morning…

And THE DAY is already waiting for you.

Think about that.

Here is a day.

FOR YOU.

A complete day to experience.

A day to use.

A day to spend.

What a gift.

WHAT IT REALLY MEANS TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING

I suspect we have lost some of the meaning of simply waking up.

We move too quickly.

Alarm.

Bathroom.

Coffee.

Phone.

News.

Work.

Traffic.

Appointments.

Before we know it, we are halfway through something that arrived as a gift.

Maybe we skipped the appreciation part.

The part where you realize:

I HAVE BEEN INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANOTHER DAY.

That deserves acknowledgment.

The day did not promise perfection.

It simply arrived.

And so did you.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME… TODAY

Maybe that is a good way to begin.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

Today.

This particular one.

Because days are not meant to be problem-free.

They are meant to be LIVED.

Experienced.

Used.

Sometimes enjoyed.

Sometimes endured.

Sometimes celebrated.

Sometimes learned from.

But lived.

What greater gift do we really receive than the opportunity to participate in LIFE…

ONE DAY AT A TIME?

NO TWO DAYS ARE ALIKE

Here is something worth sitting with.

No two days are exactly alike.

Not yesterday and today.

Not today and tomorrow.

Not two Tuesdays.

Not two birthdays.

Not two Christmas mornings.

The light changes.

The weather changes.

The people change.

YOU change.

Even when the routine looks identical, the day itself is not.

This particular arrangement of time, people, circumstances, thoughts, opportunities and possibilities will never occur again in exactly the same way.

WOW.

Let that move from your brain…

Down through your heart…

And into your soul.

THIS DAY HAS NEVER EXISTED BEFORE.

And once it is gone…

IT WILL NEVER EXIST AGAIN.

HOW DO YOU START YOUR DAY?

Listen outside early in the morning.

Birds begin announcing themselves.

I AM HERE.

I AM ALIVE.

I AM LOOKING FOR SOMETHING.

I AM CALLING TO SOMEBODY.

I AM.

Then the rest of nature begins joining in.

Plants slowly open.

Flowers turn toward the light.

Leaves receive the sun.

Dew disappears.

Wind begins moving things.

The whole environment seems to say:

THE DAY HAS STARTED.

Nature doesn’t hold a meeting first.

It participates.

SOMETHING GREAT IS AT WORK HERE

There are systems operating around us every day that are so dependable we barely notice them.

Sunrise.

Weather.

Water.

Growth.

Gravity.

Seasons.

The circulation of water alone is remarkable.

Evaporation.

Clouds.

Rain.

Rivers.

Oceans.

Then around again.

We simply turn on the faucet and expect water.

We walk outside and expect atmosphere.

We breathe and expect air.

We look east and expect morning eventually to arrive.

So much works without asking for our attention that we begin treating extraordinary things as ordinary.

Maybe every now and then…

NOTICE.

THE WIND DOES ITS PART

Then there is the wind.

Invisible.

Moving.

Pushing clouds.

Cooling the air.

Shaking trees.

Carrying seeds.

Changing weather.

You cannot see the wind itself.

You see what it DOES.

Interesting.

Some of the most powerful things in life work that way.

Love.

Faith.

Hope.

Purpose.

Influence.

You may not be able to hold them in your hand.

But you can often see what they move.

HERE IS YOUR DAY

Now we return to you.

Here is your day.

What are you going to do with it?

Complain through it?

Rush through it?

Sleep through it?

Worry through it?

Argue through it?

Or USE it?

Not every day has to contain a magnificent accomplishment.

Spending a day wisely does not mean turning twenty-four hours into an endurance contest.

Maybe today is for work.

Maybe healing.

Maybe rest.

Maybe family.

Maybe thinking.

Maybe building.

Maybe helping somebody.

Maybe taking care of something you have been postponing.

Maybe simply noticing how good your coffee tastes while the sun comes through the window.

Wise spending is not the same thing as constant productivity.

It means understanding the value of what you are spending.

TIME IS THE CURRENCY

Money is interesting.

Lose some…

You may earn more.

Spend some…

You may replace it.

Time is different.

Once today’s hour is spent…

THAT PARTICULAR HOUR IS GONE.

No refund.

No replacement.

Tomorrow may give you another hour.

But it will not give you THIS one back.

That makes time one of the most valuable currencies we possess.

And yet we can spend it very casually.

On resentment.

Arguments.

Envy.

Meaningless worry.

Things we cannot change.

People we do not even like.

Interesting investment strategy, isn’t it?

DON’T WASTE THE WHOLE DAY ON ONE BAD MOMENT

A day can contain a bad hour.

That does not automatically make it a bad day.

A difficult conversation.

A flat tire.

A mistake.

Bad news.

An argument.

Fine.

Deal with it.

But be careful about allowing one event to confiscate everything else the day still contains.

Something went wrong at 9:00 in the morning.

Do you really want to give it 10:00?

Noon?

3:00?

Dinner?

Bedtime?

That is expensive.

Do not let a bad moment buy the rest of your day.

SPEND SOME OF IT ON PEOPLE

One of the best ways to spend a day is on another human being.

A phone call.

A visit.

A conversation.

Helping.

Listening.

Encouraging.

Teaching.

Laughing.

Eating together.

You may forget what you bought today.

You may remember forever who you spent part of the day with.

That tells us something.

SPEND SOME OF IT ON YOURSELF

And no…

That is not automatically selfish.

Read something.

Walk.

Exercise.

Think.

Rest.

Learn.

Sit quietly.

Create.

Take care of yourself.

A person who spends every day completely depleted eventually has very little left to give anyone else.

Use some of the gift to maintain the person who is doing the spending.

PAUSE FOR CAUSE

Before rushing from Point A to Point B tomorrow morning…

PAUSE FOR CAUSE.

Just for a moment.

Nothing complicated.

Look around.

Take one breath.

And think:

I HAVE BEEN GIVEN ANOTHER DAY.

That little moment can change the tone of everything that follows.

Gratitude puts value back into what familiarity has made ordinary.

GO NOW… AND DO GREAT THINGS

Great things do not always look great while they are happening.

Getting somebody safely home can be a great thing.

Finishing your work properly can be a great thing.

Keeping your word can be a great thing.

Helping someone can be a great thing.

Calling your mother can be a great thing.

Forgiving somebody can be a great thing.

Taking care of your body can be a great thing.

Sitting with someone who needs company can be a great thing.

Do not wait for a stage and applause.

Spend the day well where you are.

GRATITUDE COMPLETES THE GIFT

Whoever gives a gift deserves acknowledgment.

That is how gifts work.

Someone gives.

Someone receives.

And somewhere between the two…

THANK YOU.

For me, the existence of another day points beyond itself.

I see a giver.

A source.

God.

And gratitude becomes part of participating in the gift.

Not because the day was perfect.

But because the day WAS.

And I was here for it.

FINAL THOUGHT

When you wake tomorrow morning…

Before the phone.

Before the schedule.

Before the problems.

Remember:

THERE IS A DAY WAITING FOR YOU.

You did not buy it.

You did not manufacture it.

You received it.

Spend some on work.

Spend some on love.

Spend some on learning.

Spend some on rest.

Spend some on gratitude.

Just don’t spend it without realizing what you had.

HERE IS A DAY TO SPEND.

SPEND IT WISELY.

PEARLS INSIGHT

Time is a nonrenewable personal resource. Treating each day as something valuable encourages greater intentionality, gratitude, attention, and better choices about work, relationships, rest, and emotional energy. A meaningful day does not require constant productivity; it requires awareness of how limited time is being used and whether that use aligns with what matters.

PEARLS FROM THE BOOKS

A recurring principle throughout Pearls for the Soul is that life arrives in portions we can actually handle.

Not entire decades at once.

TODAY.

One day.

One opportunity to participate.

One portion of time placed into your hands.

Receive it.

Use it.

Then give thanks for having had it.

PEARLS CONNECTION

This Pearl connects directly with:

SPEND THIS WISELY… TIME

TIME WELL SPENT

and

WE ARE ALL JUST PASSING THROUGH

The connection is simple:

Time is limited.

The day is temporary.

And we are temporary occupants of it.

So spend accordingly.

RICHIE SPEAKS

You woke up?

GOOD.

Check your account.

Someone deposited another DAY.

Now before you blow the whole thing on worry, complaining, rushing and nonsense…

Remember what you’re spending.

TIME.

You cannot earn today’s back tomorrow.

So enjoy some.

Use some.

Give some away.

Do something worthwhile.

And don’t forget to say:

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME… TODAY.

Now GO.

And do great things.
