A million dollars RIGHT NOW…

or one penny doubled every day for 30 days?

Easy decision?

Careful.

The smallest beginning may be hiding the biggest ending.

Someone walks up to you and makes an offer.

Two choices.

CHOICE ONE:

I hand you ONE MILLION DOLLARS right now.

Cash.

Done.

Walk away.

CHOICE TWO:

I give you ONE PENNY…

and double it every day for 30 days.

Which one do you take?

Come on.

No calculator.

No research.

No committee meeting.

LOL.

Most people see:

$1,000,000

versus

ONE CENT.

And that million dollars starts looking mighty friendly.

So you grab it.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

You walk away quickly before the person changes their mind.

Your head is already filling with:

houses,

cars,

investments,

vacations,

bills being paid,

and everything else a sudden million dollars might accomplish.

Someone asks:

“Where did you get all that money?”

You explain:

“Somebody offered me a million dollars today or a penny doubled every day for 30 days.

I TOOK THE MILLION.”

Then the person looks at you and says:

OH NO.

Uh-oh.

THE PENNY WAS BUSY

That penny did not look impressive.

That was the trick.

It started tiny…

but it had something the million dollars did not have.

A PROCESS.

And TIME.

The penny doubles.

Then doubles again.

And again.

And again.

At first…

nothing looks particularly exciting.

DAY 1

$0.01

One penny.

No big deal.

Most people would not even bend down to pick it up.

LOL.

DAY 10

$5.12

Still not exactly causing the financial world to tremble.

You are enjoying your million.

DAY 20

$5,242.88

Nice.

But you still have nearly a million-dollar lead.

You are feeling pretty good about yourself.

“See?

I KNEW I made the right decision.”

Not so fast.

DAY 25

$167,772.16

Now the penny has your attention.

That little nuisance has become REAL MONEY.

Still…

you have the million.

Everything is fine.

Right?

DAY 26

$335,544.32

Okay.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

DAY 27

$671,088.64

Now you are watching closely.

That penny is closing fast.

Your million suddenly does not feel quite as invincible.

PAUSE FOR CAUSE.

Remember where this started.

ONE CENT.

DAY 28

$1,342,177.28

There it is.

The penny just passed your million.

Now the pain begins.

LOL.

You start replaying the original conversation.

Maybe I should have asked one more question.

Maybe I should have thought a little longer.

Maybe I shouldn’t have grabbed the million so FAST.

DAY 29

$2,684,354.56

Now your million dollars somehow feels smaller.

Nothing actually happened to your million.

It is still a million dollars.

But comparison has arrived…

and comparison can ruin a perfectly good day.

LOL.

DAY 30

$5,368,709.12

There it is.

One penny…

doubled every day…

became more than FIVE MILLION DOLLARS.

And the person who grabbed the immediate million is standing there wondering how something so small could have grown into something so large.

COMPOUNDING HIDES IN THE BEGINNING

This is what makes the story so useful.

The early stages are BORING.

There appears to be very little reward.

That is where people quit.

They say:

Nothing is happening.

This isn’t working.

I am wasting my time.

But doubling growth does not advertise its ending very well at the beginning.

The power shows itself LATE.

That is why patience matters.

SMALL DOES NOT MEAN INSIGNIFICANT

We humans have a habit of judging something by its present size.

One penny?

Worthless.

One workout?

What difference does it make?

One page read?

Big deal.

One dollar saved?

Who cares?

One good habit practiced today?

Nothing changed.

But repeated actions accumulate.

Now we have something different.

A penny is small.

A PROCESS is not.

TIME WAS DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING

The penny did not become impressive because it worked harder.

LOL.

It simply kept multiplying.

Time allowed the process to reveal itself.

This same principle shows up throughout life.

Learning.

Saving.

Investing.

Exercise.

Relationships.

Reputation.

Skill.

Business.

Small improvements repeated consistently can eventually produce something that looks surprisingly large.

The important word is:

CONSISTENTLY.

THE MILLION WAS NOT A BAD DECISION

Now…

let us be fair.

One million dollars immediately is still ONE MILLION DOLLARS.

There are circumstances where immediate money may matter enormously.

Debt.

Emergency.

Opportunity.

Age.

Risk.

Certainty.

And outside a mathematical illustration, nobody guarantees your penny will literally double every day.

So the lesson is not:

ALWAYS REFUSE THE MILLION.

The lesson is:

UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF GROWTH BEFORE YOU DISMISS THE SMALL BEGINNING.

That is different.

IMPULSE LOVES THE BIG NUMBER

The million is exciting because it is visible NOW.

The penny asks for imagination.

Patience.

Understanding.

Discipline.

That is why immediate gratification is so attractive.

RIGHT NOW feels more valuable than:

WAIT AND SEE.

But sometimes WAIT AND SEE has been quietly doing arithmetic behind your back.

LOL.

A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS

That old expression suddenly becomes interesting.

A penny for your thoughts?

Fine.

But if you are going to give me the penny…

perhaps we should discuss the doubling arrangement first.

LOL.

The deeper thought is this:

What SMALL THING in your life are you ignoring because it has not become impressive yet?

A skill?

A relationship?

A savings habit?

A business idea?

An education?

A health habit?

A daily discipline?

Maybe it does not need to look impressive today.

Maybe it needs TIME.

RICHIE SPEAKS

Here is one Richie rule:

Do not judge the ending by the size of the beginning.

Another:

Instant gratification gets your attention.

Compounding rewards your patience.

And one more:

Before grabbing the obvious million…

ask what that little penny is capable of becoming.

PEARLS FROM THE BOOKS

From the spirit of Pearls for the Soul:

“Small beginnings become powerful when consistency and time are allowed to join them.”

From the spirit of God I AM:

“What appears insignificant at first may contain possibilities that only continued participation will reveal.”

From the spirit of It Is Finished:

“Stop abandoning the process merely because the early results have not yet become impressive.”

PEARLS INSIGHT

The penny example demonstrates exponential growth.

Starting with one cent on Day 1 and doubling the amount each day produces:

$5,368,709.12 by Day 30.

The lesson reaches beyond money.

Compounding occurs when growth begins building upon previous growth.

Early progress can appear insignificant because the base is still small.

Later, the same percentage or doubling process acts upon increasingly larger amounts.

That is why consistency, patience and time can produce outcomes that are difficult to appreciate at the beginning.

PEARLS CONNECTION

This connects directly with STEP BY STEP YOU WILL PREVAIL…TRUE LIFE STORY.

Progress does not have to be dramatic to be real.

It also connects with SPENDING THE RIGHT TIME IN THE RIGHT PLACE GIVES OPTIMUM RETURN.

Time becomes extraordinarily powerful when it is attached to the right process.

And WHAT ONE CAN DO…ANOTHER CAN DO reminds us that large outcomes often begin with very ordinary first steps.

FINAL SAY

One million dollars today…

or a penny doubled every day for 30 days?

The million SHOUTS.

The penny whispers.

That is why this lesson works.

We are naturally attracted to what already looks large.

But some of life’s greatest returns begin looking almost ridiculous.

One penny.

One step.

One page.

One call.

One lesson.

One dollar.

One day.

Then repeat.

And repeat.

And repeat.

Do not despise the small beginning.

Give the right thing enough TIME…

and eventually the result may introduce itself in a very BIG way.

A penny for your thoughts?

After thirty days…

I might take that penny.
