Not all pain is destructive.
Some pain was sent to save you.
Correction stings…
but so does healing.
Correction is a good pain.
It stings.
Sometimes arrives unexpectedly.
Sometimes forcefully.
But correction is usually on a mission.
Beliefs are powerful.
Thoughts are powerful.
Choices are powerful.
And because they are so powerful, something equally powerful must sometimes intervene to redirect them before damage spreads further.
Correction can do this.

CAUSES OF CORRECTION
Correction may come because:
• ignorance has gone unchecked too long
• an error is causing harm
• an injustice needs to be stopped
• people must come together for a greater purpose
• a soul has drifted too far from truth
Correction enters where disorder begins taking root.
EMBARRASSMENT
Embarrassment, when self-applied honestly, can become an excellent teacher.
It immediately causes reflection.
Assessment.
Adjustment.
It cuts deeper than we would prefer because correction is trying to reach the root and not merely trim the branches.
Painful?
Yes.
But often effective.
SORROW
Loss…
disappointment…
failure…
woe…
all possess the ability to correct us.
Sorrow opens the heart differently.
When we finally feel the consequences of something deeply enough, correction gains access to areas pride once protected.
And suddenly we no longer wish to repeat the same mistake again.
HUMILITY
The arrogant and prideful eventually encounter situations capable of humbling them.
Life has a way of bringing every soul face to face with its limitations.
Meekness begins to emerge.
Awareness enters.
And correction starts reshaping the person for the better.
Shocking at times…
but necessary.
SCRUBBING AWAY
Anyone who has ever removed a stubborn stain understands this process.
Sometimes extra effort is required.
Correction works this way upon the soul, mind and spirit.
Some willingly seek refinement.
Others have refinement thrust upon them through circumstance.
Either way, the cleansing process begins.
CONSIDER THIS
Children require correction or chaos develops.
Pets need boundaries or they begin controlling the household.
Employees require coaching, guidance and training.
Relationships require adjustment and compromise to grow deeper.
Even society itself attempts correction through law, rehabilitation and accountability.
Correction surrounds human life because growth depends upon it.
WHAT DRIVES THE BUS?
Correction should always be love-driven.
Not domination.
Not humiliation.
Not abuse of authority.
True correction seeks restoration.
Not destruction.
When correction loses love, injustice often enters and resentment grows.
That is not correction anymore.
That is control.
FOR THE SAKE OF GOOD
Anyone who lovingly stands up and says:
“This is not right”
or
“You are better than this”
is often demonstrating real love.
Parents discipline children despite how much it hurts their own hearts.
Because love understands something important:
Temporary pain can prevent permanent damage.
ONE DAY…
Some corrections work immediately.
Others take years.
People evolve differently.
But that does not make correction useless.
At some point, if truth is embraced, the benefits begin revealing themselves.
I STAND CORRECTED
Looking back, I think fondly upon those who corrected me over the years.
At times I resisted them.
Challenged them.
Made things difficult.
Yet much of the good within me today came through people who loved me enough to confront me.
For that…
I remain grateful.
REPENTANCE IS GOD’S WAY
God, in His wisdom, placed within us an extraordinary correcting instrument:
The conscience.
It works day and night.
Quietly warning.
Prompting.
Guiding.
What an incredible gift.
One day perhaps we transcend the need for constant correction altogether.
But until then…
thank God for conscience.
HARD-HEARTED PEOPLE
Those who continually reject correction eventually become hardened.
The heart slowly turns to stone.
And what they were designed to become begins fading away.
This was never the intention.
IT’S NEVER TOO LATE
Whenever I meet someone deeply hardened, two thoughts often come to mind:
Once…
they entered this world innocent and lovable.
And somewhere along the journey…
something went terribly wrong.
These thoughts summon compassion within me.
Because perhaps…
if love and correction can still reach the heart…
anything remains possible.
If two or more agree…
(corrector and corrected)
anything is possible.
