Every time someone gives you five minutes, they give you something they can never earn back.
That’s why TIME may be the most valuable—and most frequently underestimated—gift we possess.
We live by schedules, routines, calendars, appointments, deadlines, bedtimes and wake-up calls.
Between the time we get out of bed and the time we climb back into it, we spend TIME.
Sometimes wisely.
Sometimes foolishly.
Sometimes without giving it a second thought.
WAIT-UP!
TIME waits for NO ONE.

It keeps ticking while we sleep, while we think, while we work and while we are busy making hay. We may pause, procrastinate or change direction, but time keeps moving.
Perhaps that is why time is so valuable, so underrated and so easily misspent.
TIME IS A CONTAINER
Time contains everything we can see, touch and experience.
It contains you, me and everyone who has ever walked this earth. Trillions of people have passed through it, yet none were permitted to keep it.
We are not the owners of time.
We are its temporary stewards.
Every day, we receive another portion. We may invest it in people, purpose, work, worship, worry, rest or waste—but spend it we will.
Even sleep is a mandatory TIME-OUT.
WHO ARE YOU?
Time is no respecter of status.
Rich or poor, powerful or powerless, famous or forgotten—we each receive a portion, and none of us knows exactly how much remains.
Someone once asked whether I enjoyed their company.
I replied, “I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.”
That answer may sound simple, but think about what it means.
When someone chooses to spend time with you, they are giving you a piece of their life. Money may be replaced. Possessions may be recovered. But the hour someone gives you is gone forever.
Treat it accordingly.
PARENTS SACRIFICE
Children rarely understand how much time their parents invest in them.
The feedings. The sleepless nights. The rides. The practices. The appointments. The homework. The worrying. The waiting—and then more waiting.
Young people may not appreciate that investment until they grow older and begin giving their own time to someone they love.
That is often when the lesson finally arrives:
Time must be spent—or you will be spent for it.
Parents do not merely spend money raising children. They spend mornings, evenings, weekends and entire seasons of their lives.
Eventually, that sacrifice is passed forward.
I GAVE YOU TIME
People sometimes believe that volunteering their time costs them nothing.
Nothing?
Time may be the most expensive contribution they can make.
There are no extra hours hidden in a drawer. There are no replacements, refunds or do-overs. When someone helps you, listens to you, visits you, teaches you or simply sits beside you, that person has given you part of a limited supply.
“I gave you my time” should never be treated as a small statement.
It is an expression of love.
TIME IS A GIFT
“Got five minutes?”
We say it casually, but those five minutes are precious.
We exchange time for money, services, education, entertainment and companionship. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, caregivers, mechanics and babysitters may charge for their time because time is inseparable from life.
Even estate planning is an attempt to prepare for the time when our time here is complete.
So before asking someone for an hour, consider what you are really requesting.
And before giving someone your time, consider whether the exchange honors the life you have been given.
A SIMPLE TIME AUDIT
Ask yourself:
Where does most of my time go?
Who receives the best of it?
What deserves more of it?
What has been quietly stealing it?
Does my schedule reflect what I claim is important?
A calendar can reveal our priorities more honestly than our words.
Rest is not necessarily wasted time. Reflection is not wasted time. Being present with someone you love is not wasted time.
But endless resentment, needless distraction and avoidable delay can consume days we never intended to surrender.
PONDER THIS
What is greater than time?
No time.
Eternity.
If we fail to appreciate the moments entrusted to us here, how will we understand the meaning of forever?
Time teaches humility because tomorrow is not guaranteed.
It teaches gratitude because today arrived as a gift.
It teaches wisdom because every choice requires us to spend a portion of something we cannot replace.
TIMES-UP?
In the twinkling of an eye, time can shift from being our tool and opportunity to becoming our master.
We say that we are killing time—but perhaps time is quietly revealing what we are doing with our lives.
Only God stands outside time.
We live within it, measured by beginnings and endings, while God commands eternity.
Time marched before us.
It marches beside us.
And it will continue after us.
So TAKE your time—but never take it for granted.
FINAL THOUGHT
You cannot save time for later.
You can only decide what—or who—is worthy of it now.
PEARLS INSIGHT
Respecting time does not mean rushing through life. It means becoming more conscious of where your life is going while you are living it.
PEARLS FROM THE BOOKS
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:1
PEARLS CONNECTION
Choose one person today who deserves more of your undivided time. Put away the distractions, look them in the eye and be completely present.
That may become the most memorable gift you give them.
RICHIE SPEAKS
Your time is your life in motion. Spend it carefully, give it lovingly and appreciate it while you still have it.
FINAL SAY
TIME waits for NO ONE.
But while it is here, it gives every one of us another opportunity to love, learn, serve, forgive and live.
Take your time, then.
Just make it count.
— Richie
