Your body was not designed for storage.

It was designed for movement.

Use it wisely…
or lose it slowly.

Take a moment and look at your hand.

Really look at it.

The fingers.

The joints.

The tendons.

The grip.

The flexibility.

The precision.

The strength.

What an amazing piece of engineering.

It can hold a newborn child.

Swing a hammer.

Write a book.

Plant a garden.

Build a home.

Comfort a friend.

Create a masterpiece.

And that is just one small part of the human body.

The more you study the human body, the more remarkable it becomes.

Every muscle.

Every bone.

Every organ.

Every system.

Working together in harmony.

All designed for one purpose:

TO BE USED.

Used again.

And kept in use until further notice.

A high-performance sports car cannot sit idle forever.

Its systems need circulation.

Its fluids need movement.

Its engine needs activity.

Leave it parked too long and problems begin to develop.

The same principle applies to the human body.

Racehorses must run.

Athletes must train.

Musicians must practice.

Craftsmen must create.

Bodies must move.

USE IT OR LOSE IT.

That old saying survives because it contains a great truth.

I have had my share of backaches over the years.

Like many people, I sought advice from doctors and chiropractors.

One question always seemed to come up.

“Are you exercising?”

There was wisdom in that question.

Many back problems are not caused by activity.

They are caused by inactivity.

When muscles weaken, other muscles compensate.

Balance is lost.

The body begins pulling against itself.

Soon something hurts.

Then we wonder why.

The body is constantly trying to help us.

It is trying to adapt.

Trying to repair.

Trying to compensate.

Trying to keep us moving despite our neglect.

That alone deserves our respect.

As I wrote in Pearls for the Soul:

“The body was built for participation, not observation.”

— Richie Naggar, Pearls for the Soul

There is another challenge we face.

The Ego.

Your Ego is not always your Amigo.

The Ego loves comfort.

Excuses.

Convenience.

Tomorrow.

Later.

Maybe next week.

The Ego whispers:

“You don’t look that bad.”

“You can skip today.”

“Take it easy.”

“Maybe later.”

And before you know it, later becomes years.

Potential gets postponed.

Strength fades.

Energy declines.

Not because the body failed.

Because it was not being used as intended.

The remarkable thing is that the body continues trying to help.

Gain weight and it distributes it.

Become weak and it compensates.

Get injured and it repairs.

Push it properly and it becomes stronger.

It is one of the most forgiving systems ever created.

But even miracles have limits.

The lesson is simple.

Exercise.

Walk.

Stretch.

Work in the yard.

Build something.

Carry something.

Ride a bicycle.

Swim.

Dance.

Work with your hands.

Move.

Not to become perfect.

Not to become a fitness model.

Not to impress anyone.

Move because your body was designed for movement.

Move because activity produces life.

Move because strength creates options.

Move because the quality of your life is directly connected to the quality of your participation.

Do not overfeed your body.

Do not overwork your body.

Do not abuse your body.

Simply use it.

Respect it.

Maintain it.

Appreciate it.

The body you have today is carrying you through every dream, every relationship, every adventure, and every opportunity.

That deserves gratitude.

That deserves attention.

That deserves action.

Most people already know these things.

The problem is rarely knowledge.

The problem is application.

The second step is where the magic happens.

JUST DO IT.

Your body is waiting.

And it was designed for purpose.
