Take every dollar, diamond, deed, car, jewel, and possession of value…
and place it on a planet with no people.
What happens to the value?

PAUSE.
That little thought experiment can straighten out quite a bit.
I want to submit something to you that is simple…
but thought-provoking.
Something you can bounce your troubles off of.
Something that keeps things close to REAL.
It has a built-in PAUSE quality to it.
And maybe we need more of that.
Because all day long, the world broadcasts:
MORE.
GET MORE.
BUY MORE.
OWN MORE.
BECOME MORE IMPORTANT.
UPGRADE.
COMPARE.
COMPETE.
LOL.
Meanwhile, life itself is sitting quietly in the background saying:
“Are you going to notice me?”
HERE IT IS
Suppose we took everything we consider valuable…
Money.
Gold.
Jewelry.
Cars.
Deeds to prime property.
Emeralds.
Rubies.
Pearls.
Silk clothing.
Fine watches.
Art.
Anything people fight over, save for, work for, insure, protect, and brag about…
and transported ALL of it to another planet.
A completely empty planet.
No people.
No civilization.
No economy.
No buyers.
No sellers.
No admirers.
No one there at all.
What would all that treasure be worth?
Nothing.
PAUSE.
Gold would simply be metal sitting on the ground.
A luxury automobile would be an object slowly deteriorating.
A million-dollar painting would be pigment on canvas.
A diamond necklace would be a group of rocks nobody cared about.
Prime real estate?
LOL.
There would not even be anybody there to call it prime.
Without people…
the value disappears.
PEOPLE
That is what would be missing.
PEOPLE.
Human beings give material things meaning.
We decide:
This is valuable.
That is rare.
This is beautiful.
That is expensive.
This belongs to me.
This belongs to you.
Without people, the whole game disappears.
That tells us something important.
The value we keep chasing outside ourselves…
actually begins INSIDE ourselves.
Material things do not create value by themselves.
Human consciousness assigns the value.
That means the human being is more valuable than the thing being valued.
Think about how easily we forget that.
THE PURSUIT CAN BECOME THE ILLUSION
There is nothing wrong with material goods.
I like useful things.
Comfortable things.
Beautiful things.
Good food.
Nice surroundings.
A reliable car.
A pleasant home.
Money in the bank.
Nothing wrong there.
The problem begins when THINGS become more important than the person experiencing them.
Now the possession begins possessing YOU.
LOL.
You work endlessly to get it.
Then worry about losing it.
Insure it.
Maintain it.
Protect it.
Upgrade it.
Compare yours with somebody else’s.
Then eventually…
you leave it here anyway.
That is one stubborn arrangement.
WHEREVER WE GO…THERE WE ARE
Life itself remains the most valuable and underappreciated discovery.
And Earth is one remarkable place to experience it.
Now imagine tomorrow we discover another planet almost identical to Earth.
Beautiful.
Oceans.
Mountains.
Forests.
Fresh air.
Open land.
The race would begin immediately.
People would say:
“Let’s go!”
And at first…
what an adventure.
A new world.
Fresh beginning.
Open possibilities.
But then comes the question:
WHAT ARE WE TAKING WITH US?
Not luggage.
Mindset.
If we transport the same greed…
competition…
fear…
status seeking…
domination…
envy…
and endless hunger for MORE…
then how long before the new planet starts looking suspiciously like the old one?
LOL.
Wherever we go…
there we are.
THE RACE FOR MORE?
This is why chasing material things purely for their own sake becomes such an illusion.
There is always another level.
Another house.
Another car.
Another neighborhood.
Another watch.
Another vacation.
Another number in the account.
Enough can keep moving farther away every time you approach it.
So when does the person finally get to LIVE?
That is the question.
When we make things more important than ourselves…
we cheapen the human experience.
You become the servant of something that had no value until YOU gave it value.
That is backwards.
RICHIE SPEAKS
Here is one Richie rule:
Own things.
Do not let things own YOU.
LOL.
And another:
If nobody were around to admire it…
would you still want it?
That question can clear out a lot of unnecessary shopping carts.
And one more:
The richest person in the room may simply be the one who knows when enough is enough.
THE THING IS NOT THE EXPERIENCE
A beautiful house is not peace.
A luxury car is not freedom.
Jewelry is not love.
Money is not security in every circumstance.
They can help.
Absolutely.
But they are tools.
Not replacements.
The house may hold the family.
But the family gives the house meaning.
The car may take you somewhere.
But the person you are going to see gives the trip meaning.
The table may be expensive.
The conversation around it is where the real value lives.
That is the distinction.
PEARLS INSIGHT
Material goods have practical and social value because human beings assign meaning to them.
Perspective changes when we remember that possessions are tools supporting life rather than the purpose of life itself.
The human experience comes first.
Everything else is furniture.
PEARLS CONNECTION
This connects directly with the Pearls themes of identity, perspective, gratitude, simplicity, and awareness.
DEPENDS HOW YOU LOOK AT IT reminded us that perspective changes the experience.
HOW YOU COME TO HAVE MONEY reminded us that the path matters more than the number.
And this Pearl asks another question:
What good is possessing the world…
if we forget who is doing the possessing?
FINAL THOUGHT
This life is fragile.
Brief.
Remarkable.
Temporary.
You get a little time here.
You get people to love.
Places to see.
Food to taste.
Things to build.
Mistakes to make.
Sunsets to watch.
Ice cream to eat.
LOL.
Enjoy your material things.
Use them.
Share them.
Appreciate them.
But keep them in their proper place.
You are not here to become a storage facility for possessions.
You are here to EXPERIENCE LIFE.
Sip it.
Savor it.
Live it intimately.
Because when all the possessions are removed…
what remains is the one thing that gave them value in the first place.
YOU.
