A fence post standing alone serves a purpose.
A fence post leaning on another eventually creates a problem.
People are not much different.
WHAT ARE YOU LEANING ON?

I was looking at an old fence one afternoon.
Most of the posts stood tall.
Strong.
Steady.
Reliable.
Then I noticed one post leaning heavily against another.
At first it seemed harmless.
Then I realized something.
The weak post was no longer carrying its own weight.
And the strong post was carrying more than it should.
Life often works the same way.
THE DEPENDENCY TRAP
There is a difference between support and dependence.
Support strengthens.
Dependence weakens.
Support helps you grow.
Dependence prevents growth.
Support teaches you how to stand.
Dependence teaches you how to lean.
One builds confidence.
The other erodes it.
THE PEARLS CONNECTION
Throughout Pearls for the Soul there runs a recurring truth:
People flourish when they develop inner strength.
Faith.
Character.
Discipline.
Purpose.
Responsibility.
These become the posts that hold life upright.
Without them, people often search for others to carry burdens they were designed to carry themselves.
GIRL PEARL
“A strong woman appreciates support without surrendering her strength.”
— Pearls for Girls
Real confidence stands on its own foundation.
MANOGRAM
“A man’s character is revealed by what he can carry when nobody is carrying him.”
— When Will Men Come Back Again?
Strength is built through responsibility.
THE FOUNDATION
The strongest relationships are not built between two incomplete people.
They are built between two growing people.
Two responsible people.
Two people capable of standing on their own while choosing to walk together.
That is partnership.
Not dependency.
THE QUESTION
What are you leaning on?
Excuses?
Approval?
Fear?
Comfort?
Someone else’s effort?
Someone else’s dream?
Or are you strengthening your own foundation?
RICHIE SPEAKING…
There is nothing wrong with receiving help.
There is wisdom in it.
There is humility in it.
But never become so comfortable leaning that you forget how to stand.
Feed the soul.
Build your character.
Strengthen your faith.
Develop your purpose.
Carry your share.
Because life becomes far more rewarding when you discover what you are capable of supporting.
Including yourself.
