Most misunderstandings begin the same way.

Someone stopped asking questions.

And started assuming.

There are things happening around us every day that deserve a second look.

Some things are obvious.

Some things are hidden.

Some things are misunderstood.

And some things are simply waiting for someone to ask the right question.

Too often, people rush to conclusions instead of understanding.

They analyze.

They speculate.

They assume.

And then they wonder why confusion follows.

ASK QUESTIONS.

Remember when you were a child?

One of the first gifts you exercised was curiosity.

Why?

How?

What does that mean?

Where does that go?

Who made that?

Children ask questions naturally because they are seekers.

They are explorers.

They are not afraid to admit they do not know.

There is wisdom in that.

THE BUILT-IN GUIDANCE SYSTEM.

We arrive in this world with a desire to discover.

It is part of our design.

Curiosity is not weakness.

It is intelligence in motion.

It is awareness looking for understanding.

It is the soul reaching toward truth.

Somewhere along the way, many people stop asking questions.

Not because the questions disappeared.

But because they were taught to stop asking them.

The result?

The questions remain.

Only now they go underground.

THE ANTI-QUESTION SYSTEM.

How often have you heard:

“Just do what you’re told.”

“Because I said so.”

“Don’t ask so many questions.”

“Just get in line.”

The problem with suppressing questions is that reality doesn’t disappear.

The need for understanding remains.

The mind continues to search.

The heart continues to wonder.

And when answers are not available…

Assumptions rush in to fill the void.

ASSUMPTIONS.

An assumption is something accepted as true without proof.

Sometimes assumptions turn out to be correct.

Many times they do not.

The danger is not that assumptions exist.

The danger is treating them as facts.

When people do not know, they often invent explanations.

When information is missing, they create stories.

When communication is absent, confusion enters.

The assumption becomes a substitute for truth.

That is rarely a good trade.

DON’T MAKE ME ASSUME.

Clear communication is an act of kindness.

Whether in marriage, business, friendships, parenting, leadership, or public service, people deserve clarity.

If expectations exist, communicate them.

If directions exist, explain them.

If changes occur, announce them.

Confusion is often the result of poor communication rather than poor intentions.

Holding people accountable for information they never received is not fair.

SEEK TO KNOW.

One of the greatest phrases you can ever learn is:

“I don’t know.”

There is no shame in not knowing.

The shame is pretending that you do.

The honest person remains curious.

The wise person remains teachable.

The mature person remains open.

Truth has nothing to fear from questions.

In fact, truth welcomes them.

As I have written many times:

Seek.

Ask.

Knock.

Investigate.

Explore.

Observe.

Question.

Discover.

The journey itself is part of the reward.

THE PAUSE BEFORE THE CONCLUSION.

Many of life’s mistakes occur because we react too quickly.

We see something.

We hear something.

We think we understand.

Then we act.

The wiser path is often:

Pause.

Observe.

Question.

Listen.

Then decide.

A moment of patience can save years of regret.

COMMON SENSE AND REALITY.

Common sense is one of God’s greatest gifts.

It quietly whispers when something doesn’t add up.

Listen to it.

If something seems unclear, ask.

If something seems incomplete, investigate.

If something seems confusing, seek clarification.

You are not being difficult.

You are being responsible.

WHAT THEN?

Assume less.

Observe more.

Judge less.

Understand more.

React less.

Inquire more.

Seek facts.

Seek truth.

Seek understanding.

And in the absence of certainty, take refuge in humility.

It is perfectly acceptable to say:

“I do not know yet.”

Remain curious.

Remain objective.

Remain teachable.

Then let reality reveal itself.

The truth has a way of showing up for those willing to wait for it.
