Intimacy is not only about romance.
It is about knowing deeply…
being known honestly…
and allowing trust to make the connection real.
Intimacy is a very special word.
We often use it in personal relationships…
but it reaches much farther than that.
Intimacy can mean:
closeness,
familiarity,
deep knowledge,
trust,
and meaningful connection.
You can have intimate knowledge of:
Real Estate,
a profession,
a neighborhood,
a craft,
a product,
a subject,
a tradition,
or another human being.

The common thread is DEPTH.
You did not merely glance at it.
You got close enough to KNOW it.
GOD STARTED IT
For people of faith, the relationship between God and human beings is deeply intimate.
Not superficial.
Not distant.
The idea is to KNOW…
and to BE KNOWN.
To bring:
thoughts,
fear,
hope,
gratitude,
questions,
and trust
into the relationship.
That is intimacy.
And human relationships can reflect the same principle.
Friendships can deepen far beyond:
“How are you?”
“Fine.”
Marriages can continue growing for decades when two people keep discovering one another instead of assuming:
I ALREADY KNOW YOU.
PAUSE FOR CAUSE.
A person you have known forty years can still surprise you.
That is one reason intimacy remains alive.
PASSIONATE PEOPLE ARE INTIMATE
I have met people who are intimate with their subject matter.
You know immediately.
They are not merely reciting information.
They KNOW it.
The facts are there…
but so are:
experience,
confidence,
passion,
instinct,
judgment,
and personal connection.
Ask a master carpenter about wood.
Ask a seasoned Real Estate agent about neighborhoods.
Ask a chef about food.
Ask a teacher about students.
Something changes in their voice.
They have BEEN somewhere with the subject.
They came back carrying understanding.
That is a form of intimacy.
ANYONE CAN DO IT…BUT SOME DON’T
Intimacy is available…
but it is not automatic.
It requires investment.
Time.
Attention.
Trust.
Risk.
Honesty.
Curiosity.
Patience.
You do not become intimate with another person while refusing to reveal anything real about yourself.
You do not become intimate with a profession without studying and practicing it.
You do not become intimate with a subject merely by talking about it.
You LIVE with it.
You experience it.
You make mistakes around it.
You return.
You learn.
Then depth begins.
TRUST OPENS THE DOOR
Intimacy without trust is difficult.
Why would somebody reveal something vulnerable if they believe it will be:
mocked,
shared,
weaponized,
or dismissed?
That is why trust matters so much.
When someone shares something personal with you…
you have been handed something valuable.
Handle it carefully.
That is part of intimacy too.
GOOD THINGS COME WITH INTIMACY
When intimacy is healthy…
some very good qualities usually appear.
Humility.
Concern.
Interest.
Honesty.
Attention.
Patience.
Respect.
Presence.
You stop merely waiting for your turn to speak.
You listen.
You stop trying to manage the impression.
You become real.
And the other person senses it.
That can be deeply satisfying.
Not because everything becomes perfect…
but because the connection becomes genuine.
INTIMACY IS NOT PERFORMANCE
This is important.
Intimacy cannot be faked for long.
You can imitate:
interest,
kindness,
attention,
even affection…
for a while.
But true intimacy requires participation.
It is not a technique.
It is not a manipulation.
It is not a sales trick.
It is not:
HOW DO I MAKE THIS PERSON LIKE ME?
It is:
HOW DO I KNOW THIS PERSON BETTER…
AND ALLOW THEM TO KNOW ME?
Very different.
INTIMACY MUST BE TREATED WITH RESPECT
People crave closeness.
Children crave it.
Adults crave it.
Marriages need it.
Friendships grow through it.
People sometimes go searching for intimacy in destructive ways too.
Affairs.
Unhealthy relationships.
Dependency.
Attention-seeking.
Why?
Because the hunger for connection is real.
But a real need can still be pursued in the wrong place.
That is where judgment matters.
Healthy intimacy respects:
boundaries,
consent,
commitments,
privacy,
and responsibility.
Closeness should not require betraying somebody else.
KNOWN AND STILL ACCEPTED
There is something powerful about being known…
and not immediately rejected.
That may be one of intimacy’s greatest gifts.
Somebody sees:
your strengths,
weaknesses,
history,
fears,
quirks,
mistakes,
hopes…
and still says:
I’M HERE.
That is not permission to behave badly.
It is something better.
Acceptance without pretending.
Knowing without idealizing.
That kind of connection is rare enough that people remember it.
INTIMACY AND JUDGMENT
There is an old idea:
The more deeply you know somebody…
the harder it becomes to judge them superficially.
That makes sense to me.
From a distance…
people become categories.
Up close…
they become stories.
Now you learn:
what happened,
what hurt,
what they tried,
what they fear,
what they survived.
Understanding does not mean approving everything.
But it adds context.
And context can soften harsh judgment.
That may be something the world could use more of.
INTIMACY IN BUSINESS
Yes…
even business.
Not inappropriate intimacy.
RELATIONAL intimacy.
Knowing your client.
Knowing what matters to them.
Understanding:
their fears,
their goals,
their priorities,
their history,
their expectations.
That allows service to become more personal.
People remember being understood.
That is valuable.
A client may forget the exact words you used…
but remember:
HE GOT ME.
That is intimacy working inside service.
INTIMACY WITH YOURSELF
Here is another one.
How well do you know YOU?
Your triggers?
Strengths?
Weaknesses?
Patterns?
Beliefs?
Fear?
Motives?
If you cannot be honest with yourself…
intimacy with others gets harder.
Self-knowledge creates a better starting point.
You know what you bring into the room.
That matters.
RICHIE SPEAKS
Here is one Richie rule:
You cannot rush intimacy…
but you can ruin it quickly.
Another:
Being known is valuable.
Being trusted with somebody else’s truth is a responsibility.
And one more:
Intimacy begins when performance starts leaving the room.
PEARLS FROM THE BOOKS
From the spirit of Pearls for the Soul:
“Closeness becomes meaningful when two people stop merely exchanging words and begin exchanging truth.”
From the spirit of God I AM:
“To know and be known is one of the deepest forms of relationship available to the human heart.”
From the spirit of It Is Finished:
“Release the mask that protects an image but prevents genuine connection.”
PEARLS INSIGHT
Healthy intimacy is built through repeated experiences of:
trust,
honesty,
attention,
vulnerability,
respect,
and mutual understanding.
It applies beyond romance.
Deep friendships, family relationships, mentoring, professional trust, spiritual life, and mastery of a subject can all contain forms of intimacy.
The key distinction is depth.
Intimacy develops when interaction moves beyond surface-level familiarity into meaningful knowledge and connection.
Healthy intimacy also requires boundaries.
Closeness without respect can become intrusion.
Trust without responsibility can become exploitation.
PEARLS CONNECTION
This connects directly with IT’S LOVE ONE ANOTHER…NOT SEX ONE ANOTHER.
Physical closeness and emotional intimacy are not the same thing.
It also connects with THERE IS SOMETHING HEALING ABOUT HONESTY…TEST IT.
Honesty creates the environment where intimacy can safely grow.
And POSTING IS LIKE A CONVERSATION, ME FIRST, THEN YOU reminds us that meaningful connection often begins when somebody is willing to share something genuine first.
FINAL SAY
Intimacy is satisfying because it brings DEPTH to life.
You know more.
You feel more.
You understand more.
You trust more.
And when the relationship is healthy…
you become more comfortable being real.
God and man.
Husband and wife.
Friend and friend.
Teacher and student.
Professional and subject.
You and YOU.
The principle travels.
Get close enough to KNOW.
Stay honest enough to BE KNOWN.
Treat what is shared with respect.
Do not confuse intimacy with sex.
Do not confuse intimacy with possession.
Do not confuse intimacy with intrusion.
It is something quieter.
Deeper.
More valuable.
Perhaps if we spent more time genuinely knowing one another…
and less time immediately judging one another…
the world would feel very different.
Being intimate is satisfying.
Because knowing deeply…
and being known honestly…
feeds something in us that surface living never reaches.
