Some people learn the easy way.
Some learn the hard way.
And some apparently have a standing reservation at…
THE HARD WAY CAFE.
You do not WANT to eat at this restaurant.
But somehow…
everybody stops in once in a while.
Some more than others.
LOL.
After all…
the proof is in the tasting.
And for certain lessons…
some people insist on sampling the whole menu before believing the warning.

Welcome to:
THE HARD WAY CAFE.
Where regret is always fresh…
and consequences are served piping hot.
DINNER
CHOICE SELECT FEET
Cooked to perfection…
then placed directly into the mouth of the person who insisted on speaking too soon.
Served with a rich sock sauce.
House recommendation:
THINK BEFORE ORDERING.
LOCAL CROW
Slow cooked for those who absolutely had to be RIGHT…
until reality brought out the dinner bell.
Tender.
Humbling.
Best served with:
“I MAY HAVE BEEN WRONG.”
Ask about the blue plate special.
STUBBORN LEG OF LAMB
Rock hard.
Will not move.
Will not bend.
Will not listen.
Served with mint sauce that refuses to change its mind either.
Cutting instructions:
GOOD LUCK.
LOL.
HUSH-MY-MOUTH SOUP
For those occasions when saying less would have produced more.
Quiet broth.
Very soothing.
All-you-can-eat special for chronic interrupters.
PAUSE FOR CAUSE.
Sometimes the best thing on the menu…
is silence.
ROASTED UNCOMMON SENSE
Served in a horn-of-plenty dish…
which is ironic because there is apparently very little common sense in it.
Comes with argumentative noodles.
They twist around everything.
Even when there is nothing left to argue about.
SOFT INSANITY QUICHE
Every bite tastes exactly the same.
Yet the diner keeps eating…
expecting a completely different flavor.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Interesting recipe.
Very popular with repeat offenders.
LOL.
CHOICE SLOW-ROASTED BEEF BOAST
Heavy on self-importance.
Served with arrogance potatoes…
and a thin indifference sauce.
Best consumed alone…
because everybody else has already left the table.
APPETIZERS
SWEET & SOURPUSS SALAD
Starts sweet.
Turns sour immediately.
Comes with a permanent facial expression at no extra charge.
SHUCK & JIVE OYSTERS
Fresh excuses on the half shell.
Served in clam-up sauce.
Very slippery.
Hard to pin down.
EGG-ON-FACE OPEN SANDWICH
A house classic.
Feeds two easily.
One person eats it…
everybody else watches.
LOL.
AU ROTTEN POTATOES
Covered in a cheesy top that will not stop.
Rich.
Heavy.
Difficult to digest.
Frequently ordered immediately after someone says:
“I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I’M DOING.”
DESSERT?
Oh yes.
REGRET PIE.
Always available.
Served cold…
usually later.
That is when the customer finally says:
I KNEW BETTER.
There it is.
THE SPECIAL OF THE DAY.
THE MENU CHANGES…THE LESSON DOESN’T
Now here is the funny part.
The dishes change.
The lesson usually does not.
You knew:
to slow down,
to ask,
to listen,
to think,
to wait,
to verify,
to keep quiet,
or to leave it alone.
But no.
You had to order.
LOL.
That is how the Hard Way Cafe stays in business.
CUSTOMERS KEEP COMING BACK
Why?
Because knowing something…
and DOING what you know…
are two different things.
People often say:
I KNOW.
Fine.
Then why did you order the same meal again?
That is the question.
Knowledge without application can still leave you with indigestion.
THE EASY WAY WAS AVAILABLE
This is worth remembering.
Sometimes the lesson really was available earlier.
Someone told you.
Experience warned you.
Common sense spoke.
A friend suggested another route.
You saw the sign.
Still…
you proceeded.
That does not make you hopeless.
It makes you human.
But once the lesson is paid for…
TAKE IT HOME.
Do not keep paying tuition for the same class.
THAT GETS EXPENSIVE.
THE BILL ALWAYS COMES
The Hard Way Cafe has one strict policy.
NO FREE MEALS.
Eventually…
the bill arrives.
Embarrassment.
Lost time.
Lost money.
Damaged trust.
Missed opportunity.
Stress.
Regret.
That is why a little awareness before ordering is valuable.
Ask:
DO I ALREADY KNOW HOW THIS ENDS?
If yes…
maybe skip dinner.
LOL.
RICHIE SPEAKS
Here is one Richie rule:
If you already know the dish gives you indigestion…
stop ordering it.
Another:
Learning the hard way once is tuition.
Learning the same hard way ten times is a subscription.
And one more:
Common sense is cheaper than regret.
PEARLS FROM THE BOOKS
From the spirit of Pearls for the Soul:
“Experience becomes wisdom only when the lesson changes the next choice.”
From the spirit of God I AM:
“What has already corrected you does not need to keep returning as punishment.”
From the spirit of It Is Finished:
“Release the pattern after the lesson is learned and stop placing the same order.”
PEARLS INSIGHT
People often repeat avoidable mistakes because:
habit,
emotion,
impulsiveness,
pride,
or familiar thinking
can overpower what they already know.
A useful way to interrupt the pattern is to recognize the sequence early:
TRIGGER
↓
OLD RESPONSE
↓
PREDICTABLE RESULT
Then deliberately choose a different response.
The objective is not to avoid every mistake.
Impossible.
It is to stop paying repeatedly for lessons already purchased.
PEARLS CONNECTION
This connects directly with IF YOU ARE GOING TO BEAT YOURSELF UP…USE A FEATHER NOT A STICK.
Make the mistake.
Learn.
Then move on.
It also connects with ASSUME NOTHING IN TODAY’S WORLD…YOU MUST KNOW OR DON’T KNOW.
Many hard-way meals begin with an assumption.
And THE ANSWER MAY LIE OUTSIDE YOUR THINKING…WHAT THEN? reminds us that repeating the same mental recipe usually produces the same dish.
FINAL SAY
Welcome to the Hard Way Cafe.
Reservations accepted.
Walk-ins welcomed.
But here is my recommendation:
DO NOT BECOME A REGULAR.
Everybody eats here eventually.
Fine.
Have the meal.
Taste the lesson.
Pay the bill.
Then remember what it tasted like.
The next time the menu arrives…
look it over.
Smile.
Then say:
NO THANK YOU.
I HAVE EATEN HERE BEFORE.
Because the goal is not to live mistake-free.
The goal is to become wise enough that yesterday’s lesson changes today’s order.
HARD WAY CAFE…
STOP EATING HERE.
