I TRUST YOU UNTIL I DON’T
Over the decades, I have experimented with this subject and found something that works consistently, fairly and in everyone’s favor.
It is simply this:
I trust you.
Whoever you are.
Whatever the circumstance.
I believe you…
until I have a reason not to.
You see, you control those dynamics.
I merely observe them.
I do not argue with what I see.
I do not debate what I hear.
I simply pay attention.
That is why it works.
CARE-FREE
Being able to enter a situation, relationship, event or circumstance without prejudice, bias or suspicion is one of the purest ways to experience life.
It allows one to remain light-hearted.
Care-free.
Present.
Energy that would otherwise be spent worrying can now be used for living.
Unfortunately, some see innocence as an invitation to prey.
That too reveals character.
Q & A
If something appears unclear, questionable or incomplete, I simply see it as an invitation to explore further.
Questions clarify.
Observation verifies.
If we are dealing with innocence and sincerity, a little Q & A usually clears things up quickly.
Truth does not fear examination.
COME OUT?
If there is a hidden agenda, dishonesty or manipulation at work, follow-up questions often reveal the entire song and dance.
The first impression may conceal.
Time reveals.
The person driving the deception usually creates their own outcome by exposing themselves.
Eventually the mask slips.
Game over.
CONFIDENCE
Trust and belief are operating constantly whether we realize it or not.
Every day we move through life trusting roads, buildings, people and systems.
The key is awareness.
Keep your eyes open.
Pay attention.
And trust yourself enough to recognize what is actually happening.
Confidence grows from observation, not fantasy.
CHOOSE AND HOLD
One of the greatest lessons is learning not to doubt what you genuinely see and hear.
No exceptions.
When that small, still voice quietly speaks within you…
listen.
Take heed.
Choose your position carefully and then hold it.
Do not surrender your awareness to pressure, persuasion or popularity.
Practice sharpens discernment.
SECOND THOUGHT?
Be careful of regret, guilt and unhealed vulnerabilities.
These become openings that manipulative people often exploit.
A skilled deceiver looks for hesitation.
Weakness.
Neediness.
Confusion.
That is where the pitch begins.
Be thoughtful about whom you open yourself to.
Not everyone deserves access to your inner world.
INTUITION WORKS
Women possess a remarkable gift often called intuition.
Many can recall moments when they knew something wasn’t right…
but ignored that knowing.
Only later did they realize the warning was accurate.
Intuition strengthens through use, trust and experience.
The lesson is not that intuition failed.
The lesson is that it was ignored.
QUICK AND IN A HURRY?
Another dynamic worth considering is impulsive living.
Why the hurry?
What is so urgent that it must bypass common sense?
I prefer to listen.
Observe.
Allow the circumstance to reveal itself.
Then, if necessary, I respond.
Patience often sees what haste misses.
REACTIONS
Never react.
Reacting gives the situation power over you.
Responding keeps the power with you.
Remain calm.
Relax.
A firm yes works.
A firm no works.
Silence often works best of all.
Especially with hucksters, manipulators and those dealing in darker motives.
Develop this skill.
It pays well.
TALK IS CHEAP
Trust and belief are not won through words alone.
No amount of persuasion should receive the respect it demands.
Words make promises.
Actions make proof.
Dishonesty throws trust away.
Many believe they can recover it with a few clever explanations.
Not so.
Trust returns through consistency, not conversation.
THE SIMPLE RULE
So I choose a simple rule.
I trust you.
I believe you.
Until I have a reason not to.
You control your dynamic.
I control mine.
And somewhere between the two…
