Imagine being offered consciousness, reality, and a temporary human life—with only one condition:

You must actually live it.

Would you accept the deal?

Imagine that you were an inanimate object without awareness.

No thoughts.

No dreams.

No choices.

No life.

Then one day, Someone gives you a moment of awareness and presents the following proposition:

“I will give you consciousness, reality, and a temporary human life. But in return, you must accept the price that accompanies it.”

Would you agree?

Before answering, you should probably ask:

What is the price?

THE PRICE YOU HAVE TO PAY

The price of receiving life is to live it.

That is right.

You would be asked to adventure, journey, risk, investigate, seek, yearn, question, learn, and respond to everything that comes toward you, against you, and for you.

You would be given gifts, talents, abilities, instincts, curiosity, conscience, and skills to help you along the way.

Would you accept the proposition?

Of course!

Most of us would shout yes before the offer could be withdrawn.

And here we are.

Deal accepted.

WORTHY NOTE: Jesus told a parable about people receiving something valuable and being expected to produce a return from it. What is faithfully used can multiply. What remains buried produces nothing.

WE KNOW WHAT LIFE IS NOT

Here is where the arrangement becomes interesting.

When you begin doubting everything you know is right in your heart—along with what honest experience has taught you—the life you were given can become compromised.

Doubt has a legitimate purpose when it encourages examination.

But uncontrolled doubt, confusion, deception, hesitation, and manipulation can become new masters.

You stop exploring.

You stop trusting.

You stop using what was placed within you.

The life remains present, but your participation weakens.

THE SYSTEM ALLOWS FAILURE—and ANOTHER TRY

Take heart.

Every misstep, fall, disappointment, and blow carries another opportunity.

Rise again.

Brush yourself off.

Learn.

Become wiser.

Make an adjustment and continue.

Remember the imagined agreement?

You accepted the price paid by the living: to keep living the life you were given.

Not perfectly.

Not without pain.

But faithfully—again and again.

You continue until you understand more than you understood before.

WORTHY NOTE: Honest pain deserves acknowledgment. But when whining, excuses, and endless complaining attempt to become permanent residents, remind them:

STOP that!

They may visit, but they do not receive ownership.

THE SELF-CONTAINED UNIT

The human package is amazing.

You received a body containing senses, intelligence, emotions, memory, imagination, instinct, and abilities still waiting to be discovered.

You were not given every answer in advance.

But you were given equipment for learning.

Within the core of this unit is also a teacher—a quiet guidance system that instructs when we are willing to listen.

Faith calls part of this obedience.

You recognize what is right and agree to move with it.

WORTHY NOTE: There is life—and then there is abundant life. One merely exists. The other becomes aligned with God, meaning, growth, and contribution.

Your way or His way?

Note the difference.

THE BACKUP SYSTEM

We call it conscience.

The word carries the idea of knowing with oneself—an inward awareness that accompanies our actions.

Conscience does not always shout.

It often arrives as a gentle prompt:

Do this.

Do not do that.

Make it right.

Tell the truth.

Go back.

Apologize.

Help.

Wait.

When we listen, something within us settles.

When we repeatedly refuse, inner conflict often appears.

The backup system begins sending reminders.

And reminders can become increasingly difficult to ignore.

WORTHY NOTE: What happens if we accept the gift of life but repeatedly refuse its responsibility?

We receive more invitations to change direction.

It remains up to us.

PAUSE FOR CAUSE

Conscience should be respected, but it should also be properly formed.

Fear, shame, habit, pride, and other people’s expectations can imitate inner guidance.

Test what you hear against truth, love, justice, humility, and the consequences it produces.

God’s direction does not require you to abandon honesty or deliberately injure another person.

The genuine inner guide leads toward what is right—not merely what is comfortable.

TRUST NO SUBSTITUTE

Be discerning when a person, organization, temptation, or system promises effortless shortcuts, guaranteed outcomes, less responsibility, or endless pleasure in exchange for your independence.

There are legitimate helpers in life—teachers, physicians, counselors, friends, spiritual leaders, and wise advisers.

The issue is not accepting help.

The danger is trading away conscience, responsibility, truth, and the gifts within you for a false substitute.

Do not sell the prize inside yourself for an imitation outside yourself.

Listen.

Learn.

Receive assistance when needed.

But remain responsible for the life bearing your name.

THE PRICE IS PARTICIPATION

Life is not a spectator arrangement.

You cannot permanently sit in the stands while expecting fulfillment to take the field for you.

Use what you were given.

If you possess strength, apply it.

If you possess compassion, offer it.

If you possess creativity, produce something.

If you possess wisdom, share it humbly.

If you fall, learn to rise.

If you become lost, consult the compass again.

The price of life is participation.

PEARLS INSIGHT

Failure does not automatically violate the agreement.

Refusing to rise, learn, or continue is where life begins slipping unused through our hands.

RICHIE SPEAKS

You do not have to cross an ocean or climb a mountain to prove that you are living.

Sometimes living means attempting the difficult conversation.

Sometimes it means changing your direction.

Sometimes it means accepting help.

Sometimes it means getting out of bed and trying again.

Adventure comes in many forms.

What matters is that you answer life with life.

LIFE WITHOUT END

Something else is placed upon the table—not as a human achievement or transaction, but as a promise of faith.

Eternal life.

For the Christian, the Helper is received, conscience is awakened, grace is offered, and a reality beyond what we can presently comprehend becomes possible through God.

We cannot manufacture eternity.

But the Life-Giver can offer it.

He can do that.

FINAL SAY

Life was given.

Now return something worthy through the way you live it.

Adventure.

Investigate.

Seek.

Use your abilities.

Listen to conscience.

Fall when you must—and rise when you can.

Let us get to our part of the bargain.

Let us LIVE the life we were given.
