Point of view rules more of the world than we realize.

When somebody shares theirs with you, they are opening a door into how THEY see things.

That is not the time to argue.

That is the time to LOOK.

Point of view rules the world.

PAUSE.

Not necessarily because one point of view is always right…

but because every person is living through one.

When you begin to understand another person’s perspective, you are being invited into their world for a moment.

That is an honor.

And a responsibility.

Handle it carefully.

Do not be tempted to argue too soon.

If you do, the learning opportunity may disappear before you even get through the door.

WHEN I SHARE OR WANT

Here is a good question:

Who should go first?

Well, if I am out and about and I need something…

I communicate it.

Simple.

I make the request.

Then I watch the feedback.

Did they understand me?

Did I explain it clearly?

Did the answer actually address what I was asking?

If not, I fine-tune.

I clarify.

I narrow it down.

I keep going until the communication gets where it needs to go.

That is not arguing.

That is refining.

There is a difference.

LOL.

Sometimes people get frustrated because the other person “doesn’t understand.”

Maybe.

Or maybe we did not communicate it well enough yet.

WHEN SOMEONE ELSE SHARES AND WANTS

Now reverse it.

Somebody approaches ME.

They want to share.

Explain.

Make a point.

Now my ears grow.

My mouth shuts down.

LOL.

I lend them my attention.

If it is a complete stranger, naturally they may have only a few seconds to capture my interest.

That is life.

If I am not interested, the exchange may end quickly.

Fine.

But if there is a reason to stay…

then stay.

Listen long enough to understand what they are actually saying.

Not what you THINK they are about to say.

Not what somebody else once said.

THEM.

Right now.

SHARING OF SELF

If it is someone I know…

like…

love…

work with…

serve as a client…

or if the situation itself is important…

then I give more time.

More patience.

More consideration.

Now we begin traveling together through a shared point of view.

I want to understand.

I also want to be understood.

That is quality exchanging.

Not:

“You wait while I prepare my rebuttal.”

LOL.

But:

“Show me what you are seeing.”

Then:

“Let me show you what I am seeing.”

Now something useful can happen.

I DIDN’T SEE OR HEAR THAT…THANK YOU

This is one of the most interesting things about being human.

Two people can stand in the same room…

watch the same event…

hear the same words…

and leave with different experiences.

Why?

Because information passes through personal filters.

History.

Beliefs.

Preferences.

Fear.

Experience.

Expectation.

Memory.

Mood.

Identity.

All of it colors what gets received.

That does not automatically make one person dishonest.

It means people EXPERIENCE differently.

That is exactly why perspective matters.

Another person may point out something you genuinely did not see.

And one of the healthiest things you can say is:

“I didn’t see that.”

Or:

“I never thought of it that way.”

Or simply:

“Thank you.”

That does not make you weak.

It makes you teachable.

RICHIE SPEAKS

Here is one Richie rule:

Do not argue with somebody’s perspective before you have actually heard it.

LOL.

Another:

Understanding somebody does not require becoming them.

And one more:

Two people can look out the same window and notice different things.

The window is not the problem.

LISTENING IS THE BRIDGE

Perspective without listening goes nowhere.

You cannot understand another person while constantly interrupting them.

You cannot enter their point of view while dragging your own point of view over every sentence.

Sometimes you have to temporarily set yours down.

Not abandon it.

Just set it down.

Take a look from where they are standing.

Then pick yours back up.

That is maturity.

PEARLS INSIGHT

Perspective is shaped by personal experience, memory, beliefs, expectations, and emotional state.

Understanding another person’s point of view does not require agreement.

It requires curiosity, listening, and enough humility to recognize that our own view is only one angle.

PEARLS CONNECTION

This connects directly with DEPENDS HOW YOU LOOK AT IT.

That Pearl explored how viewpoint changes experience.

This one moves into relationship.

Once perspective is SHARED…

communication becomes the bridge.

YOU GOT MY FULL ATTENTION adds another piece:

You cannot understand another person’s world without first giving them enough attention to describe it.

FINAL THOUGHT

Perspective is a point of view.

But when shared honestly…

it becomes something more.

It becomes an invitation.

For a moment, somebody lets you stand where they are standing.

See what they see.

Feel a little of what they feel.

That can create understanding.

Respect.

Connection.

Even intimacy.

You do not have to agree with everybody.

Good grief.

LOL.

But you can make an effort to understand them before deciding what you think.

That alone can change the entire conversation.

Share yours.

Hear theirs.

Then see what becomes visible that neither of you could see alone.
