SOUND YOUR BARBARIC CRY UNTO THE WORLD

LET YOUR YAWP BE HEARD

You were not born to whisper through life.

You were not created to hide your light.

You were born to leave a mark.

The question is…

What is your YAWP?

SOUND YOUR BARBARIC CRY UNTO THE WORLD

LET YOUR YAWP BE HEARD

Tarzan did it.

Cowboys do it.

Warriors have done it.

Poets have done it.

And so should you.

Walt Whitman wrote:

“I too am not a bit tamed. I too am untranslatable. I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world.”

What a magnificent statement.

A YAWP is more than a sound.

It is a declaration.

It is a proclamation.

It is proof that you showed up.

It is the voice of your spirit announcing to existence:

“I WAS HERE.”

IF YOUR MOMENT COULD YAWP… WHAT WOULD IT SAY?

Every person carries within them a unique cry.

Not necessarily a literal sound.

Sometimes it is a work of art.

Sometimes it is a business.

Sometimes it is a book.

Sometimes it is a prayer.

Sometimes it is a life lived with courage.

Your YAWP is your authentic expression.

It is the evidence that you participated in the miracle of being alive.

You survived.

You prevailed.

You refused to quit.

You claimed your prize.

You embraced your passion.

And then…

You sounded your YAWP.

THE COWBOY YAWP

Yeeeeee Haaaaaa!

There is no mistaking the cowboy.

You know where he is.

You know who he is.

You know what he is doing.

His YAWP carries confidence.

His YAWP carries freedom.

His YAWP carries life.

When his world hears it, things begin to move.

THE TARZAN YAWP

The famous cry of Tarzan echoed through the jungle and everything stopped to listen.

Friends recognized it.

Enemies respected it.

Animals responded to it.

It was the cry of a king.

A warrior.

A protector.

A leader.

In a few brief sounds, Tarzan communicated more than some people communicate in years.

THE BRUCE LEE YAWP

Bruce Lee understood this principle.

His battle cries were not random.

They carried focus.

Intensity.

Presence.

Purpose.

His opponents knew something was coming.

The sound itself became part of the force he projected.

His YAWP announced:

“I am fully here.”

THE FINDING OF MY YAWP

It took me years to discover my own.

At first, I didn’t even know I had one.

Then I borrowed everyone else’s.

Like many people, I admired the sounds, styles, and expressions of others.

But they weren’t mine.

They belonged to them.

Eventually I learned something important.

You cannot borrow authenticity.

You must discover it.

Your voice is hidden beneath layers of imitation.

Your YAWP emerges when you stop trying to be someone else.

MY YAWP

Mine begins with a deep guttural sound.

Then it climbs.

Then it leaps.

Then it explodes into the air.

If I had to write it, it might look something like:

Yeeeeaaaahhhh…
AHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAA!!!

It is joy.

It is gratitude.

It is celebration.

It is my spirit thanking God for another moment.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD

When I close an escrow…

When I reunite with an old friend…

When something wonderful happens…

When life reminds me how blessed I am…

I let it rip unto the Universe.

I sound my YAWP.

Not because the world needs it.

Because I need it.

The soul was never designed to be imprisoned.

The heart was never designed to be muted.

THE PEARLS CONNECTION

One of the recurring themes throughout Pearls for the Soul is self-expression.

The Creator did not manufacture copies.

The Creator created originals.

A pearl does not apologize for shining.

An eagle does not apologize for soaring.

A lion does not apologize for roaring.

Why then do so many people apologize for being themselves?

Many people spend their entire lives suppressing their YAWP.

Suppressing their dreams.

Suppressing their voice.

Suppressing their gifts.

Suppressing their purpose.

The result is often frustration, regret, and a feeling that something essential is missing.

The missing thing is not success.

The missing thing is expression.

YOUR BOOK IS YOUR YAWP

As I look back over the Pearls Series, I realize something.

Pearls for the Soul was a YAWP.

Pearls for Girls was a YAWP.

God I AM was a YAWP.

It Is Finished was a YAWP.

When Will Men Come Back Again? was a YAWP.

Epilogue of Ebenezer Scrooge was a YAWP.

Every post.

Every chapter.

Every lesson.

Every Pearl.

A YAWP.

Not because they are perfect.

Because they were expressed.

The treasure buried inside was brought to the surface.

That is what a YAWP does.

THE WORLD NEEDS YOUR YAWP

Not someone else’s.

Yours.

Your laugh.

Your wisdom.

Your courage.

Your kindness.

Your business.

Your invention.

Your song.

Your book.

Your voice.

The world already has everybody else.

It only has one you.

RICHIE SPEAKING…

Find your YAWP.

Refine your YAWP.

Trust your YAWP.

Then sound it over the rooftops of the world.

Not for fame.

Not for applause.

Not for approval.

But because God did not place that treasure inside of you to remain buried.

You were born to express it.

You were born to share it.

You were born to sound your barbaric cry unto the world.

Now let it rip.

YEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH…

AHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAA!!!
