Why is everyone in such a hurry?
Where exactly are we rushing to?
Sometimes the wisest thing you can do is pause long enough to see what is actually happening.

What is the hurry about anything you are doing?
Seriously.
Why are we always rushing?
Is life one giant game show where a clock is ticking and if we do not answer fast enough, we lose the grand prize?
Who started this race?
And where exactly is everyone running to?
Relax for a moment and consider something.
Life is not usually improved by rushing through it.
Life is improved by becoming aware of it.
RELAX A LITTLE BIT…
WILL YOU?
One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is permission to pause.
Not quit.
Not give up.
Not stop living.
Simply pause.
A pause allows you to gather yourself.
A pause allows your emotions to settle.
A pause allows your common sense to catch up with your feelings.
A pause allows wisdom to enter the room.
Far too many mistakes are made because we were moving too quickly.
The moment asked us to stop.
We accelerated.
The moment asked us to listen.
We reacted.
The moment asked us to observe.
We judged.
The moment asked us to understand.
We assumed.
Then later we wonder why things became complicated.
STOP.
The first step is always the same.
Stop.
Take a breath.
Become aware.
Notice where you are.
Notice what you are feeling.
Notice what is happening around you.
Notice what is happening inside you.
Most people never do this.
They simply react.
Reaction is automatic.
Awareness is intentional.
The quality of your life improves the moment awareness enters the picture.
TAKE IT IN.
The second step is to look.
Really look.
Not glance.
Observe.
Listen carefully.
Pay attention.
There is always more going on than what first appears.
There are motives.
Circumstances.
Details.
Perspectives.
Facts.
Feelings.
Context.
Truth often reveals itself slowly.
This is why patience is so valuable.
The impatient person sees only the surface.
The patient person discovers depth.
As I often say:
The treasure is rarely found on the surface.
LOOK AGAIN.
Sometimes what appears to be a problem is actually a lesson.
Sometimes what appears to be a setback is a redirection.
Sometimes what appears to be bad news becomes the very thing that produces good news later.
Life has a remarkable way of revealing itself to those willing to pay attention.
This is why awareness is so powerful.
The more you observe, the less you assume.
The less you assume, the fewer mistakes you make.
THEN CHOOSE.
Once you have paused.
Once you have observed.
Once you have listened.
Then choose.
Choose deliberately.
Choose confidently.
Choose honestly.
Choose responsibly.
Do not let fear choose.
Do not let anger choose.
Do not let panic choose.
Let awareness choose.
Let wisdom choose.
Let common sense choose.
If you are uncertain, return to the LOOK stage.
There is no shame in gathering more information.
Confidence grows from understanding.
I’M IN THE GAME.
Many people think winning means getting every decision right.
It doesn’t.
Winning means participating consciously.
Winning means bringing your best self into the moment.
Winning means being awake enough to recognize what is happening and responding appropriately.
You can make a good decision and still experience a difficult outcome.
You can make a poor decision and accidentally get a favorable result.
The reward is not perfection.
The reward is awareness.
YOU WIN GOING IN.
When you Stop.
When you Look.
When you Choose.
Something remarkable happens.
Regret diminishes.
Clarity increases.
Confidence grows.
Stress decreases.
Life slows down enough for you to actually experience it.
The moment begins revealing its treasures.
As I wrote in Pearls for the Soul:
“The moment is the gift.”
Stop long enough to receive it.
Look long enough to understand it.
Choose wisely enough to honor it.
And there will be less losing…
Because you were truly present for the journey.
