BECOME MORE VALUABLE…
AND THE MONEY FOLLOWS
Everyone wants more money.
Few ask…
“How can I become worth more?”

The marketplace doesn’t reward wishes.
It rewards value.
TALE OF “I WANT MORE MONEY”
BECOME MORE VALUABLE…
AND THE MONEY FOLLOWS
Many people say,
“I want more money.”
There is nothing wrong with wanting a better life.
The better question is…
Why should someone pay you more?
That question changed my life forever.
A LESSON I NEVER FORGOT
I worked for an exceptional company for about twelve years.
When I started, I was paid well during my probationary period.
As I learned…
My responsibilities increased.
My knowledge increased.
My value increased.
So did my income.
Eventually…
My salary reached its ceiling.
Naturally…
I wanted more.
MY BOSS SAT ME DOWN
He looked at me and said,
“Richard…
I’m already paying you above market.
If you want more…
Give me a reason.”
Those words stung.
But they also awakened something inside me.
He wasn’t rejecting me.
He was challenging me.
WORTHY NOTE
The marketplace does not reward wishes.
It rewards value.
BRING SOMETHING NEW
My employer had already built a successful business.
He didn’t need another employee doing the same things.
He needed someone who could improve what already existed.
He smiled and said,
“Bring me something that makes this company better…
Then we’ll talk.”
FIRST STORY
He told me about a Johnson & Johnson employee.
The man wanted more money.
His boss replied,
“Invent something valuable.”
The employee kept thinking.
Kept experimenting.
Eventually…
He combined sterile gauze with adhesive tape.
The Band-Aid was born.
The company prospered.
The employee prospered.
Innovation created opportunity.
My boss smiled and said,
“Bring me your Band-Aid.”
SECOND STORY
He then showed me the company’s return on investment.
“If you improve my profits…
I’ll gladly share them with you.”
Now I had a challenge.
Not a complaint.
A challenge.
THE FIRST YEARS
For several years…
I simply managed his successful operation.
That earned me respect.
It earned my salary.
But it did not justify higher pay.
Then one day…
I discovered two ideas that could improve the company’s bottom line.
He agreed to try them…
With one condition.
THE RISK
“If your ideas work…
We’ll profit-share.
If they lose money…
Your bonus pays the loss.”
I agreed.
Opportunity usually travels…
With responsibility.
Within a year…
Both ideas proved successful.
My income eventually became nearly three times what it had been.
Not because I asked.
Because I became more valuable.
THE MOMENT THAT FLOORED HIM
A couple of years before leaving…
I noticed something everyone else had overlooked.
My employer was wealthy.
His accountant was respected.
His advisors were experienced.
Yet none had mentioned something very simple.
Neither he nor his wife had ever applied for their Social Security benefits.
Thousands of dollars every month…
Were simply waiting.
I asked,
“If I show you how to increase your monthly income immediately…
Will you share a percentage with me?”
He laughed.
Thought I was naïve.
Then I explained.
His smile disappeared.
Wonder replaced it.
He called his accountant immediately.
The answer came back.
I was right.
He applied.
He received the money.
I received my agreed share.
THE RICHIE REVERSE
Most people chase money.
Few chase greater value.
Reverse the thinking.
Become the person who solves expensive problems.
Who notices overlooked opportunities.
Who improves systems.
Who increases value.
Money has an amazing habit…
Of following those people.
WORTHY NOTE
Don’t ask,
“What can they pay me?”
Ask,
“What can I improve that nobody else sees?”
That question changes careers.
Changes businesses.
Changes lives.
WHAT I LEARNED
I stopped asking,
“How do I earn more?”
And started asking,
“How do I become worth more?”
Everything changed.
Money rarely hides.
Opportunity usually does.
Look closer.
Think deeper.
Serve better.
Solve problems.
The rewards often arrive quietly…
One good idea…
At a time.
FINAL THOUGHT
If you truly want more money…
Become more valuable.
Notice what others overlook.
Improve what already exists.
Solve problems.
Create opportunities.
Then let your value…
Introduce your paycheck.
The money you seek…
May already be waiting…
For the person…
You are becoming.
