IF YOUR TRUE TREASURES ARE STORED WITHIN YOUR SOUL

The richest man in the cemetery is still dead.

Your wallet stays here.

What you become inside yourself is another matter entirely.

Trying to prove otherwise is folly.

Look at the Pharaohs.

They gave this subject plenty of time and attention.

Somehow they concluded that there was another world after this one and that they could prepare for it by taking the comforts of this life with them.

So they built tombs.

Stored gold.

Jewels.

Food.

Possessions.

Symbols of wealth and power.

They tried to replicate here what they hoped to enjoy there.

Hmm.

THESE GUYS ARE RUNNING A COUNTRY?

Please remember…

these men were considered gods.

All-powerful rulers.

People bowed before them.

They controlled enormous wealth and armies.

And yet, on this subject, I find the thinking process a little defective.

LOL.

Because eventually they died.

They were buried.

Years passed.

Then somebody broke into the tomb.

Apparently, burglary is not a modern invention either.

And what did they discover?

The gold was still there.

The jewels were still there.

The grain was still there.

The furniture was still there.

Everything that was supposed to travel with the Pharaoh…

STAYED PUT.

CONCLUSIONS REACHED

Now if Richie had been standing there at the time, I might have written:

  1. Apparently there are no armored trucks going into eternity.
  2. The Pharaoh did not take the gold.
  3. Somebody else eventually WILL.

LOL.

That last one became history.

Treasure attracts treasure hunters.

But the larger point is much more important.

MONEY STAYS HERE

We go on.

Your wallet does not.

Your purse does not.

Your checking account does not.

Your title does not.

Your house does not.

Your car does not.

Your jewelry does not.

Not one dollar follows the hearse into whatever comes next.

By the way some people conduct themselves, you would think they had figured out a way to wire-transfer money into eternity.

They have not.

There is enough here to be used while we are here.

Use it.

Respect it.

Share it when appropriate.

Invest it wisely.

Enjoy some of it.

Help somebody with some of it.

Then move on.

Because eventually…

you WILL move on.

LOOK AT MONEY AS A TOOL

This is where money becomes much easier to understand.

Money is a TOOL.

Nothing more mystical than that.

Important?

Absolutely.

Useful?

Of course.

Necessary in modern life?

No question.

But still a tool.

Think of a shovel.

A hammer.

A wrench.

A pick.

Nobody wakes up in the morning and worships the shovel.

At least I hope not.

LOL.

You use it for the job.

Then you put it down.

Money should work the same way.

It helps provide shelter.

Food.

Medical care.

Education.

Experiences.

Security.

Opportunity.

Freedom of movement.

The ability to help somebody.

That is useful.

But when the tool becomes the master, something has gone wrong.

RESPECT IT — DON’T WORSHIP IT

I respect money.

I do not worship it.

There is a big difference.

Money can buy comfort.

It cannot manufacture peace.

Money can buy medical treatment.

It cannot guarantee another sunrise.

Money can buy company.

It cannot guarantee friendship.

Money can buy attention.

It cannot guarantee love.

Money can buy a bigger house.

It cannot guarantee that anybody living inside it is happy.

There comes a point where the soul starts asking questions the bank account cannot answer.

WHO AM I?

WHY AM I HERE?

WHO DID I HELP?

WHAT DID I BECOME?

WHAT DID I LEAVE INSIDE OTHER PEOPLE?

Now we are talking about another kind of wealth.

THE WORST POVERTY

There is financial poverty.

That can be painful and real.

But there is another poverty that frightens me more.

POVERTY OF SPIRIT.

A person can own everything and still possess nothing inside.

No gratitude.

No compassion.

No peace.

No generosity.

No wisdom.

No love.

No conscience.

That is poor.

Very poor.

And unlike the money…

that condition travels with the person wherever they go.

That is why obsessing over external wealth while starving the inner person is such a terrible trade.

You spent your entire life filling the vault…

and forgot to fill yourself.

THE LOVE OF MONEY

The old warning about the love of money has survived for a reason.

The problem is not the money.

The problem is what happens when money becomes the highest authority in somebody’s life.

Then everything becomes negotiable.

Friendship.

Character.

Loyalty.

Integrity.

Family.

Conscience.

Eventually even the person themselves.

That is expensive.

Too expensive for me.

RICHIE SPEAKS

If you die with ten cents…

you leave ten cents.

If you die with ten million dollars…

you leave ten million dollars.

LOL.

Either way…

YOU LEFT IT.

So maybe the real question is not:

“How much did you accumulate?”

Maybe it is:

“What did all that accumulation turn you into?”

There is a better balance.

Make money.

Use money.

Save money.

Enjoy money.

Give some away.

But never let money decide who you are.

FINAL THOUGHT

There is only one way I know to leave this life genuinely wealthy.

Become rich somewhere thieves cannot reach.

Rich in character.

Rich in gratitude.

Rich in wisdom.

Rich in love.

Rich in conscience.

Rich in spirit.

That is wealth nobody can steal.

No rust can destroy it.

No market can crash it.

No burglar can carry it away.

The Pharaohs left their treasure behind.

Eventually, somebody else took it.

But whatever those men truly became inside themselves…

THAT was theirs.

PEARLS INSIGHT

Financial wealth is temporary by nature because ownership ends when life ends. Real wealth includes the inner qualities developed while using money—wisdom, generosity, character, gratitude, compassion, and spiritual depth.

Money is best understood as a tool for living, not a measurement of the soul.

PEARLS CONNECTION

This connects with one of the deepest Pearls themes:

What you HAVE and what you ARE are two very different things.

Possessions belong to the journey.

Character belongs to the traveler.

The healthier life becomes when we stop confusing the two.

PEARLS FROM THE BOOKS

Across the Pearls philosophy, material things are repeatedly placed in their proper position:

useful…

temporary…

and subordinate to what is happening inside the human being.

The outer world gives us tools.

The inner world decides what kind of person uses them.

That is why feeding the soul matters.

Because one day the tools are put down.

The soul is what remains.

TEN CENTS OR TEN MILLION…

we all leave poor in possessions.

But we do not have to leave poor in spirit.

Be rich within your soul.

That is the coin of the realm that really matters.
