If you take a bunch of energy, focus it, and then release it with a purpose in one direction, you have the laser beam principle at work.

It is this principle—not the technology—that I want to discuss.

People who receive specialized training in anything eventually practice this principle when they unleash that training through application and operation. The more skilled they become, the more direct and efficient they become.

The wasted motion disappears.

The mission remains.

PRECISION COMMUNICATIONS

The military, NASA, and many other cutting-edge organizations understand this principle very well.

Their communications are often short, direct, and purposeful.

Brief acknowledgments.

Concise transmissions.

Clear instructions.

The objective is simple:

Reduce error.

Increase clarity.

Maximize results.

The more important the mission, the more important precision becomes.

STAKES ARE HIGH… SO IS THE COMMUNICATION

On nuclear submarines costing billions of dollars, orders are given, repeated, confirmed, and carried out.

NASA wastes few words when communicating with astronauts operating equipment worth billions of dollars.

There is little room for filler, chatter, assumptions, or unnecessary discussion that can create confusion.

Everyone involved understands the value of getting to the point.

PUBLIC SPEAKERS WHO DON’T LASER IT OUT

Sometimes I encounter people who do the exact opposite.

They drag out a point they have already made.

Or they wander around a point they have yet to make.

After a while, I find myself wanting to ask:

“Can you laser that out for me?”

Not because I am impatient.

Because clarity is a gift.

That is what a laser beam does.

The moment it is activated, it travels directly from its point of origin to its intended destination.

Its purpose is primary.

Its mission is clear.

Nothing else is required.

The laser does not apologize for being focused.

Neither should you.

Refreshing to say the least.

Entrepreneurs appreciate it.

Problem-solvers appreciate it.

A few clear exchanges often create more progress than an hour of wandering discussion.
