THE ART OF SUCKING THE MARROW OUT OF LIFE

Life is not something to get through.

Life is something to enter into.

To savor.

To appreciate.

To participate in.

And perhaps the greatest compliment one person can give another is simply this:

I am enjoying you.

I AM ENJOYING YOU

THE ART OF SUCKING THE MARROW OUT OF LIFE

Lately, I have been eating a lot of marrow.

Not the kind hidden deep within a bone, although that image works wonderfully.

I am talking about extracting all there is from the moment I am in.

The marrow of life.

The essence.

The richness.

The treasure hidden beneath the surface.

You see, I have come to realize that we will never pass this way again.

This conversation.

This sunrise.

This friendship.

This season.

This day.

This moment.

Gone forever once it passes.

That alone should cause us to sit up a little straighter and pay attention.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Go for it.

Stop waiting for perfect circumstances.

Stop waiting until you know enough.

Stop waiting until you have enough.

Stop waiting until everything lines up.

Life is happening now.

One of the recurring Pearls themes is that the moment is its own reward.

Not the destination.

Not the outcome.

Not the trophy.

The moment itself.

The person who learns this secret becomes rich long before they acquire anything.

LIFE CELEBRATION

There is a time to be cautious.

There is a time to be serious.

There is a time to be conservative.

But there is also a time to celebrate being alive.

To laugh.

To explore.

To marvel.

To appreciate.

To share.

To love.

To notice.

Celebrating life is a skill.

Like any skill, it improves with practice.

The more you practice gratitude, wonder, appreciation, and awareness, the richer life becomes.

I MARVEL

I often stop and marvel at how incredibly equipped we are.

We are self-contained explorers.

Able to think.

Feel.

Create.

Imagine.

Build.

Love.

Observe.

Learn.

Adapt.

Forgive.

Begin again.

What an astonishing arrangement.

One of my favorite Pearls truths says:

“No one got to where they are without the help of another.”

Think about that for a moment.

Every teacher.

Every parent.

Every mentor.

Every friend.

Every stranger who helped.

We are walking miracles supported by other walking miracles.

COME OUT OF YOUR THOUGHT LIFE

Many people spend their lives trapped inside their minds.

Worrying.

Rehearsing.

Regretting.

Imagining.

Predicting.

Meanwhile life quietly waits outside.

The sky is waiting.

The trees are waiting.

The birds are waiting.

The people around you are waiting.

Reality is infinitely more interesting than worry.

Go outside.

Look up.

Pick a cloud.

Watch it move.

Notice how no two are alike.

The same can be said for people.

No two are alike either.

HERE TODAY…
GONE TOMORROW

A flower blooms.

Then fades.

A season arrives.

Then departs.

A child grows.

A parent ages.

A friend moves away.

Life constantly reminds us that everything visible is temporary.

Which makes appreciation mandatory.

One day we realize that what made life beautiful was not what we owned.

It was what we noticed.

It was who we loved.

It was who loved us back.

THE PERSON INSIDE

The next person you meet is carrying a universe inside them.

Experiences.

Dreams.

Heartaches.

Victories.

Lessons.

Fears.

Memories.

No two inner worlds are alike.

Yet most people never get past the surface.

That is a shame.

One of the deepest Pearls principles is intimacy.

To know and be known.

To genuinely enter another person’s world.

To listen.

To understand.

To care.

To connect.

This is where life becomes rich.

THIS IS THE TREASURE

In Pearls for the Soul I often return to the same truth:

What you are looking for is usually right under your nose.

Not because life is hiding treasures.

Because we are distracted from seeing them.

The treasure is the moment.

The treasure is the person.

The treasure is the experience.

The treasure is the awareness.

The treasure is the journey.

I APPRECIATE YOU

If you are reading this, allow me a moment of honesty.

I appreciate you.

I appreciate your struggles.

Your victories.

Your questions.

Your courage.

Your journey.

You have traveled a road no one else has traveled exactly the way you have.

That alone makes you remarkable.

The world often teaches us to judge.

Life teaches us to appreciate.

The soul teaches us to connect.

FINAL THOUGHT

Slow down.

Look around.

Listen carefully.

Notice deeply.

Receive gratefully.

Celebrate freely.

And when you encounter another traveler along the way, don’t be afraid to tell them something powerful:

“I am enjoying you.”

Because that may be exactly what they needed to hear.
