The truth does not need defending because it already stands on its own. It is the counterfeit, the distortion, and the deception that require endless maintenance to survive. The deeper question becomes this… how much truth are we willing to live by?
TRUTH OF THE MATTER
Stop to appreciate this little statement and notice when you have heard it or used it. “The truth of the matter.” It makes a point and causes one to wonder why such emphasis is needed at all. Shouldn’t truth simply be the default? Perhaps the phrase itself exists because so much of life tries to drift away from it.
BE NO GOOD AT THIS
Telling the truth is rewarding in and of itself. It takes no effort, planning, rehearsing, or maintenance either. You do not even need to teach it because truth is the natural default of the human being when entering this world. Fascinating when you stop to realize that very small children do not naturally excel at deception.
DISGUISE
It is the other dynamic creeping around in the shadows wanting to distort simplicity and stir confusion that requires our attention. It is the intruder, not the truth. Once identified, it morphs and disguises itself in order to survive and prey upon others.
WHAT’S GOING ON?
It comes dressed as half-truths, twisted truths, emotional truths, and carefully altered truths designed to capture attention and slowly lead one astray. Sometimes it even shocks and surprises in order to gain advantage. A spider web comes to mind.
WEB OF INTRIGUE
A spider’s web is nearly invisible until something gets trapped inside it. The more the trapped creature struggles, the more entangled it becomes. Soon the web’s creator is alerted and begins advancing toward its prey. Problems multiply quickly once caught in deception because deception always summons more deception.
THE PROBLEM AUTHOR
The saddest part is that anti-truth eventually turns against the very person entertaining it. The web that looked harmless now becomes a prison. Unless one breaks free, they become consumed by the very thing they thought they controlled.
COMING & GOING
Truth stands all by itself needing no support system. What preparation is necessary if all one must do is simply say what is real, what is known, and what actually happened? Truth sustains itself naturally while deception constantly seeks advantages and openings.
PERMISSION GRANTED?
The moment someone knowingly entertains anti-truth and refuses correction, the agreement itself becomes permission for more confusion to enter in. Life slowly becomes misdirected and off course. The frightening part is how subtle the drift can be.
TAKE HEART
Thankfully, two powerful fail-safes were built into every human being to prevent complete destruction from deception and self-delusion. These cannot be overpowered.
THE CONSCIENCE
An ever-present inner reminder quietly alerts us whenever we drift from what is right. It needs no batteries, maintenance, upgrades, or supervision. Once activated, you KNOW. That knowing then points toward something even greater…
REPENTANCE
Once the conflict within becomes clear, the soul naturally cries out for correction, restoration, and relief. Regret becomes the doorway to change. In the Greek understanding, repentance literally means “to change direction.” Change me. Redirect me. Restore me.
Nothing can permanently stand against a person genuinely seeking truth and change. NOTHING.
I AM THE WAY… THE TRUTH… AND THE LIGHT
Pause and consider the ONE who made truth visible, reachable, and available to anyone who wandered too far into confusion or darkness. Give thanks that restoration remains possible and that grace still offers countless opportunities to return whole again.
