One person can make a difference… but a unified team can move mountains. The secret is not simply gathering people together. The true challenge is learning how to come together, trust each other, and move with one purpose.

COMING TOGETHER — PERSONAL or PROFESSIONAL

It is called TEAMWORK.

Just how is a team formed? What are the dynamics? How do they sustain themselves and what is expected of them? Teamwork is much more than a word. If one person can make a difference, then a true team can literally move mountains and even go to the moon as history has already shown us.

Let’s explore TEAM power.

COMING TOGETHER

FORMING…

Someone comes up with an idea and wants to carry it out. The vision is born, explored, imagined, refined, and laid out carefully. Soon the thought process of selecting the right people begins. Interviews happen. Conversations unfold. Personalities enter the picture. The assembling of the team begins.

WHO’S WHO?

STORMING…

Now this new group of people must learn to function together. Most do not know each other deeply or personally. Secret opinions, judgments, fears, and assumptions quietly begin forming beneath the surface and these hidden dynamics drain energy away from the mission.

Those things must come out into the open.

A safe environment must be created where honesty can exist without fear. Team members have to clean out their inner closets and communicate openly about what they are truly thinking — real or perceived.

GET IT ALL OUT

Because if you do not… the team will eventually fail later under pressure.

Once everyone agrees to honesty, accountability begins. Accountability is the ability to give an accounting. Responsibility is the ability to respond properly once the mission is understood.

IMPORTANT NOTE

This is where most teams fail and bog down.

Many groups never make it past the storming phase. Some disband. Others become fake, phony, political, and ineffective by refusing to share honestly or by withholding valuable contributions.

The glue required for true unity is missing.

At that point the team becomes hit-or-miss instead of operating at full strength. The first real storm will expose all hidden dysfunction and weakness.

This is where we either build on DUST… or ROCK.

STEADY AS SHE GOES

NORMING…

If the team successfully navigates through the storming phase, something powerful begins happening. You now have a willing, eager, and capable group ready to move together.

Each person begins bringing their talents and skills into harmony.

Think of it this way:

Everyone may know how to play an instrument individually… but now they must learn how to perform together as a symphony under one direction.

If you made it this far…
SO FAR SO GOOD.

LET’S SEE WHAT WE CAN DO

PERFORMING…

Distractions have been dealt with. Petty disagreements no longer control the environment. The focus is clear. Everyone understands the assignment, the mission, the timing, and their role within it.

Now the team begins moving with purpose.

Experimentation happens.
Mistakes happen.
Failures happen.

But learning also happens.

The team self-corrects, grows stronger, sharpens itself, and becomes less wrong as it moves forward together.

RESULTS DON’T LIE

Every successful corporation, organization, championship team, military operation, business, ministry, and mission has traveled this exact road.

NO EXCEPTIONS.

The successful ones did the hard work of unity.

They fly a NO EXCUSES banner and salute it daily.

The failed teams?
Most often they failed back in the storming stage where truth, honesty, humility, and communication were not allowed to fully form the foundation.

WORTH NOTING

Once a successful team begins failing, they immediately understand one thing…

The problem must now lie somewhere else and it must be found quickly.
